Mrs. Davis To Attend State Cotton Contest
Mrs. Johnny Davis of Anima won first place in the Cotton Extra vaganza afternoon and evening division at the Deming contest. She will join Luna County winners in the state event on Cotton Day September 17 in Albuquerque to vie for the $100 top prize. Construction on Redrock telephone service began last week in a joint effort by Redrock residents and Mountain States Telephone Co. Materials and some equipment come from the company, with labor from residents. basic facilities cost over 36000 dollars and about three months are needed. Service will connect with Lordsburg exchange at no charge for intercommunity calls. Fifteen subscribers can choose private or multi party service as underground cable is laid with a 42 inch trench.

Old Timers Parade Opens Hidalgo County Fair and Rodeo Weekend
The fifteenth annual Old Timers Parade begins at 10 a.m. forming on Fourth Street near the high school and winding to Main Street and Railroad Avenue. Judging starts at 9 a.m. at the fairgrounds with exhibits in crops, fruits, sewing, canned goods, crafts, and livestock. The Junior Livestock Sale is at 2 p.m. with auctioneer Jack Nelon of Willcox. Rodeo stock provided by Loyd Hawkins of Tucson fields eight events across Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30.

The 28th annual New Mexico State Fair kicks off September 16 in Albuquerque for an 11 day run.
