Old Timer Parade plans finalized for Sept 15

Plans are set for the Old Timer Parade Saturday morning Sept 15. The lineup features a police escort, National and State colors, the Board of Governors of the Old Timer association, the Sheriff Posse, Chamber of Commerce representatives, and Old Timers desiring rides. High school bands and about six floats will lead and follow various escort vehicles through a north and west route ending near Miller Chevrolet with horses and miscellaneous vehicles second line.

Haltoms Escape Injury After El Paso Trip Car Crash

Mr and Mrs George Haltom were unhurt when their car rear ended a parked vehicle three miles past the city line while en route home from El Paso. Their car suffered heavy front-end damage including radiator hood and right fender as they visited son George Haltom Jr and family to see their newborn grandson Charles Michael.

Relics and Pictures Sought for Old Timer Decorations

The business district seeks relics and old pictures to decorate store windows for Old Timer Day. Individuals with loanable articles should contact committee members Mrs. Ina Mitchell Mrs. G P Jeffus or Mrs. Frenk Stengle or deliver items to Mrs. Audeline Diaz at Up To Date grocery.

Agri Mobilization Meetings Planned in Hidalgo County

The Hidalgo County Mobilization Committee met at the USDA Building to review a provisional Department of Agriculture Family Policy Report and plan local meetings. They announced sessions in Animas, Virden, and Lordsburg with 2:00 P M start times, inviting farmers ranchers and interested parties to attend.

Local All Stars Curtain Queens 5 4 in Softball Tilt

Last Friday evening the Lordsburg All Star softball team clashed with the Arizona Queens of Phoenix at the high school field. The Queens, led by pitcher Charlotte Armstrong, showed strong hitting and fielding with several runs in the early innings while Lordsburg battled back in the third.

Hidalgo County Fair seeks entries in food and arts divisions

Hidalgo County Fair Association reports good livestock entry interest for the State Fair on September 15 and 16. County women are urged to enter culinary sewing fancy work flowers and pictures with prizes offered. Further information and premium lists available at the county agent's office.

State Elks elect leaders and pledge to screen candidates

James Kinkema Vice Pres. Of State Elks and Sherwood Culberson Exalted Ruler of Lordsburg Lodge attended the Hobbs convention with Freeman McWhorter as trustee. Ed Herbaugh was elected president for 1951 52 and G A Fleming North section VP while Kinkema represents the southern section. The group voted to oppose Communist influence and urged lodges to screen candidates. James Baird reported 15 lodges had raised 30400 for cerebral palsy work and a 15 member committee from each lodge will oversee funds with a plan to be presented before Feb 1.

Scrap Metal Drive By Legion on Sunday September

The American Legion announces an all day scrap metal drive across the county on Sunday September 9. Members meet at the Legion hall at 8:00 AM and depart from there. Those with trucks are urged to attend and donate scrap metal.

Rodeo Queen To Be Named At Posse Dance

Four entries so far for Hidalgo County Rodeo Queen contest listed Anna Martin and Rosie Yarbrough of Lordsburg and Mary Dunagan, Ann Fenton of Animas. Queen will represent Hidalgo at the State Fair with $50 contributions from the Posse and $50 from the Fair Association. finals Sept 15 with crowning at the Posse dance.

Qualifications For Old Timer Membership

The Old Timer association requires 30 years residency in New Mexico and current residence in Hidalgo County. If eligible, register with Berle Kerr, president of the association.
