Majorette Appointments for Lordsburg High Band

Wil Sch ool junior appointed majorette of the Lordsburg High Band. Willa Lunt, daughter of a local businessman, joins senior band. Janice Sanchez, Lucy Sanchez Provert, Judy Freedman, and others named as majorettes. Several students hold band positions including horn, clarinet, oboe, and section roles.

Timers Set for Old Timers Banquet at Legion Hall

Cohen, general chairman, reports plans for a Thursday night banquet at the American Legion Hall with about 85 expected attendees. The event, hosted by the Old Timers club, will feature a meal served by the auxiliary and honors Mrs. Elmer Miller. Planning to attend urged to purchase tickets from local coordinators.

Virden youth Robert Nations dies in Dodge County crash

Robert Lee Nations 18 son of Mr and Mrs James Nations of Virden was killed in a car truck collision near the Arizona state line last Friday about 6 39 p m He was en route to Duncan in a new Chevrolet when his car side swiped an International dump truck driven by Marlin Payne also of Virden The driver was treated for shock and the truck sustained minor injuries The accident occurred between the Earl Jones and Otis Swafford farms Funeral services were held at the Virden Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Burial was at Franklin cemetery Frank lin Ariz Pallbearers included Raymond Nations Ben Nations Dick Nations and Jerry Robbs The trear car owner was not identified and the cause given as negligence and excessive speed Survivors include his parents four sisters and three brothers

Charities Directors Hear Police Report

Lordsburg Community Charities directors met at Hotel Hidalgo to finalize plans for the new charity. Fred Ewing, president, led a well attended meeting as a police department screening report on aid provided in recent weeks was presented. Citizens urged to send those seeking help to the police station for screening and possible care. The next meeting is Monday night September 16 at 7 p.m. at Hotel Hidalgo.

Rascon Draws Ten Years For Marijuana Sales

Francisco Rascon received a 10 year sentence in the state penitentiary for selling narcotics to minors. Mejia Barbosa Luna and other pleas were entered with fines and varying terms. The arrests followed information from two juveniles and involved Sheriff E N Jackson, Hugh Pace, and U S Border Patrol.

Watches Started Tuesday By GOC

GOC supervisor C I Simpkins said the watch periods opened on schedule Tuesday for the Lordsburg tower observers. M/Sgt Albert Carter of the Air Force Filter Center in Tucson aided the observers, with Mrs Ward Dale leading a strong corps and several named volunteers. Simpkins urged observers with loyalty pledges to sign and mail them to secretary Mrs Thelma Ross.
