Lordsburg Council backs Gamez loan and raises pet fees

The Lordsburg City Council approved a 20000 UDAG loan for Dr. Gamez to equip and repair a new clinic after consulting the City Attorney. Ordinance 93-5 imposing higher pet vaccination fees passed 3 to 2, with ties broken by Councilor Martinez. Adjacent items included field work, policy changes, and a landfill surcharge proposal. Councilor Moore urged salaries for officials. others opposed. August meeting postponed. several members were absent.

Funeral Services Held For Ruth Richins Of Cotton City

Ruth Sevey Richins, 67, of Cotton City New Mexico, died Sunday August 22 1993 at her home. Born June 26 1925 to George and Anna Sevey in Cotton City, she lived most of her life in the area and was a longtime resident. Funeral services were held at the local cemetery chapel with burial following at the Cotton City Memorial Lawn. She is survived by her husband and several children.

Large Scale Inspection of Commercial Vehicles Held

The Department of Transportation ran a large saturation at Lordsburg Port Of Entry with 16 inspectors and state sergeants. Over three days 179 trucks were inspected. 75 were shut down for violations, 42 percent out of service mid effort. A CVSA sticker may allow skip inspections for months.

Gems and Minerals Show Planned in Lordsburg

The Lordsburg Gem and Mineral Society and the Knights of Pythias announce a Gem and Mineral Arts and Crafts Show on October 23-24 at the Lordsburg National Guard Armory. Dominici Rep To Be At Civic Center Sept 9

Don Manzanares field representative for Senator Pete Dominici will visit Lordsburg on Thursday September 9. He will meet with residents needing information or assistance that can be addressed by the Senator's office. He will be at the Hidalgo Courthouse County Commissioner's Chambers from 10:00 AM to noon.

Post Office To Be Closed Monday Labor Day Observed

There will be no window service at the Lordsburg Postoffice Saturday or Monday in observance of Labor Day. Home delivery will occur Saturday but not Monday. Regular hours resume Tuesday per Postmaster Bob Sartar.

Ballinger Court Ruling Upheld by 10th Circuit in Denver

The 10th Circuit upheld a habeas corpus writ for Gene Ballinger in the 1980 murder of Warren Uecker at Pine Cienaga Ranch near Mule Creek. Initial charges included John Rizzo, with grand jury indictments against Ballinger, Phyllis Ballinger, and John Ballinger. John and Phyllis later dropped. Rizzo testified with immunity after locating the body and weapon with a dowsing rod.
