Lordsburg Bearcats drop the opener 7 to 4 as Rodeo rallies late in the ninth amid a surge of Bearcats fan noise. Saturday features similar action with Rodeo holding a slim lead before late gameside miscues swing momentum. Local players fill most positions on both rosters.
Note on the retirement of BK. M. Watson from the grocery trade with a promise to return later. The Watson family are described as good folks in the notice.
Mrs. John Hannan nee Velma Bailey of Miami welcomed an 8 pound son at her parents Geo W Bailey and spouse home Tuesday morning. Mother and child are doing nicely.
Marshall Fuller celebrated his fifth birthday Thursday with a gathering of named guests including Mary Crowell Kat Anna Lister Grace Conner Doris Gige Eleanor Fuller Pauline Austin Florence Cureton Edna Hughes Junior Chase Robert Martin Harold Taylor Jack Kerr Laurence Brown Basil Warren Fuller and others.
Ida Turney is in town visiting Mrs. Perry. Mr. Bradfoot returned from the ranch on Monday. Jackie McAllister stayed several days in town last week. Mr. McCants and children were here over Sunday from the ranch. Mrs. Weiler and two boys joined Mr. Weiler and will stay indefinitely. Mrs. Horton and children arrived, Mr. Horton staying there. Walter Parker, recently east, returns to enroll in school. Miss Robison will study in California this winter. Bud Daniels, formerly of here, with wife injured lightly in a car rollover near Miami. their three year old son has a broken leg.
Mr. C. M. Frantz of the National Fluorspar Co. of Denver visits Lordsburg and forecasts a bright future for the district. He has long familiarity with Lordsburg ore and seeks quick shipment of fluorspar and considers other deposits including a large molybdenum property near Ottawa.
Analysis shows a farmer with 200 tons of produce faces 416 gallons of gas over unimproved roads at 30 cents per gallon totaling 124.80 while a Federal Aid project road reduces gas usage to 266 gallons costing 76.80. Time, wear, and oil savings also improve, justifying 38 cents yearly per thousand valuation in interest.
Word from Camp Logan says Marvin Fuller captured four marksmanship medals in a range shooting. The boys will all be home soon.
Drs. Paul and Banks Austin have moved to new offices in the First National Bank Building, recently vacated by Attorney Mitchell, marking a fresh location for their medical practice.
Dr. EF C DeMoss returns to active practice after two year rest, resuming at his former Pyramid street offices. Drs. Austin relocate to the First National Bank building.

Dorothy Stengle marked her ninth birthday on Saturday with a gathering of friends. A nine candle cake and thoughtful gifts highlighted the celebration attended by Belly Boyd Cordelia Augustine Hazel Wallace Hazel Burch Dorothy Walker Lawrence Boyd James Boyd William Cline Jr Frank Stengle and the hostess.

Carl F. Schaber, noted mining engineer formerly with United States Steel, replaces Alford Koos as manager of Great Eagle Floorspar Co. He is now on the job shaping operations and the company expects activities to pick up.
The governor proclaims Labor Day a state holiday in New Mexico for the Monday after the first Sunday in September. He urges labor groups and institutions to organize suitable programs and for state offices to close. The proclamation is signed by Secretary Manuel Martinez.
Mrs Ar Gammon’s illness improved as visitors Mra F Dorsey from Phoenix and Mra J Bartlett from Turson spent a brief time with her. The note says she is very improved and will greet guests soon. The item reflects a maternal home sentiment common in the period.
Mr and Mrs W C Burney returned from a delightful auto tour covering Tess pending and com mandaire portions with a Ford coupe averaging 225 miles daily. They stayed with Mr and Mrs W D Burney, the hosts who are the Burney parents. The journey was described as pleasant in all respects.
Farmers have added a large alfalfa stock after a wet week. Preparations are underway for the new school term. Tin house cleaned, grounds work done, and building materials assembled. Mrs Vern Berkshire visits from Clea Lake to help can. Water restored to canals after three weeks of damage from heavy rains. Canal damage this month estimated at about two thousand dollars. Virden Farm Association filled two vacancies on the board of directors and forwarded applications to the Loan Committee. They seek funds from the Wichita Bank for quick appraisals.
The rodeo drew the largest crowd in history over two days in August, with an estimated 6000 attendees. A lengthy barbecue fed about 260 at once, prize winners included F An lereon, John Baten, and F.oderson in various events, and Lordsburg beat Hedee 7-4 in the first game while Hedee won 8-3 in the second. A new dance platform hosted music by AL Hp oan Wright’s Yebestra and the crowd remained orderly throughout. The committee expressed thanks to the Bw & BOW for park use and plans for a larger turnout next year.
