County Voters Set To Go To Polls This Tuesday

Hidalgo County voters head to the polls next Tuesday for a broad ballot including presidential choices among Reagan Carter and Anderson plus write ins. The ballot covers six constitutional amendments and several county and state races with unopposed candidates and competitive contests across Commission Court Supreme Court and local offices.

Groberg To Speak At Area Conference In Duncan Arizona

Elder John H. Groberg of the First Quorum of the Seventy will preside at the Duncan Arizona Stake Conference this weekend. Open to all adults, the Saturday meeting is November 1, 1980 at 7:00 p.m. in the Duncan Ward Chapel, with the Sunday session November 2, 1980 at 10:00 a.m. in Clifton Morenci Chapel. Groberg, born June 17, 1934, has served since 1976 and has held multiple church leadership roles. He and his wife Jean Sabin of Payson Utah have 11 children.

Skeen Makes Last Minute Hidalgo County Stop For Write-In Bid

Republican congressional hopeful Joe Skeen visited Hidalgo County this week as part of a last minute push for a second district write-in campaign against Dorothy Runnels and David King who is on the ballot. Skeen touted county support, decried Governor King’s role in a failed special election effort, and pledged focus on copper stabilization geothermal energy water and tourism. He noted state party backing to aid committee assignments if elected and contrasted his stance with the Independent candidate's party change.
