Mavericks Triump Over Deming in Lordsburg Showdown

Taylor starred with a 78 yard run and a second rushing score as the Mavericks edged Deming 12 0 at Lordsburg Stadium. The game drew the season's largest crowd, with Deming’s only threat ending on downs in the third quarter and Gutierrez adding the extra point.

Warner couple install school PA system for Deming game

Mr and Mrs Warner of Warner's Electronic Laboratory closed their shop last Saturday to install a PA system for the Deming football game. The old system belonging to the school had not been used recently but the couple revived its tubes with skill. Thanks go to Mr Warner and to Marshall Fuller for announcing the game.

Hidalgo County Milk Fund Tag Day Planned for Nov 1

The Hidalgo County Milk Fund run by the American Legion Auxiliary reports progress with a tag day to benefit the fund scheduled for next Saturday November 1 in the downtown area. Donations listed include Woman's Club $5.00 Pyramid Lodge 23 $0.10 Lordsburg Variety Store $1.50.

Man Shot Here Tuesday Night

Ventura Casarez died about nine o'clock Tuesday night from bullet wounds allegedly inflicted by Pegleg Figeroa. The two Lordsburg residents, both sixty, had ongoing ill feelings. A preliminary hearing showed Casarez killed with a .25 German automatic pistol kept by Figeroa in his car. Figeroa testified he shot in self defense as Casarez approached with upraised hands.

Pedestrian Underpass Proposal Discussed by Chamber of Commerce

The regular meeting of the Board of Directors in City Hall examined a pedestrian underpass under the highway to aid schoolchildren avoiding traffic. A committee was appointed to study the proposal and report at the next meeting. General discussion covered ongoing items continuing on the last page.

Representatives From Neighboring Towns Meet Here

Plans near completion for a Wednesday meeting among officials from Miami Graham Safford and Lordsburg areas to discuss highway needs and shared topics. A banquet at 7 30 pm at the Methodist church follows, with tickets via the Chamber of Commerce. An estimated thirty visitors plus locals are expected.

Vote This Week For Sun Princess in Lordsburg

The Sun Princess selection must proceed this week with ballots in Lordsburg stores. Ballots are available at local shops or via mail to the Chamber of Commerce with a Friday or Saturday deadline, and several organizations endorse princess candidates for the El Paso Sun Carnival.

District President Visits Auxiliary in Silver City

Mrs W B Miller led the American Legion Auxiliary District No 7 official visit to Robert Swan Unit No 20 on Tuesday evening at 7 at the Woman's Club. Mrs W E Dunagan and Mrs Damon Dunagan hosted a pot luck supper for 45 ladies followed by a business meeting opened by Mrs Homer Brooks.
