Gilbert Mora Dies at 56 in Lordsburg

Gilbert C. Mora, 56, of Lordsburg, died Wednesday October 28 at his home. Born May 12 1931 in Valedon New Mexico, he worked 35 years as a letter carrier for the U S Post Office and served on multiple local boards. He married Mary Altuna in 1951. Survived by wife Mary A Mora and extended family, services planned at St Joseph's Church with burial in Shakespeare Cemetery.

Josephina H Daily 94 a Lordsburg resident died Tuesday October 20 A rosary service was at St Josephs Church Thursday and the funeral mass Friday at the same church with Fr Carmelo Arroyo and Fr Narcisco Rivera officiating Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery Lordsburg She born November 24 1892 in La Luz Guanajuato Mexico lived in Lordsburg since 1917 member of St Josephs Catholic Church Survived by son Robert Ferguson three daughters Josphine Richards Emma Keeter Ramona Lopez two nephews Robert De La Garza Manuel De La Garza grandchildren Rosie OConner Agnes Varela Emma Salinas Rita De La Garza Tommie Ann Jenkins Betty Ruiz Ramon Renteria Mary Frances Stewart and several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by daughter Sally Moore son Frank Daily and grandson Joe De La Garza Pallbearers Arturo Diaz Frank Chaires Rene Saucedo Angel Talavera Tony Gozales Eddie Diaz Chapels in charge of arringements.

Animas Halloween Carnival at Old School Gym Saturday

The Animas School Halloween Carnival will be held on Saturday October 31 in the Old School Gym and Multi- Purpose Room. Hamburger cook out starts at 5 00 pm with booths activities and the High School Drama Department presenting Run Robber Run. Proceeds help re roof the Old Gym while Reed Richins Illusions hosts a Lock Hop and winners announced. Community volunteers completed two thirds of the south roof on Work Day with burrito donations praised.

Ranchers oppose Gray Ranch trade to federal government

A group of Hidalgo ranchers and farmers urged the County Commission to block trading the Gray Ranch to the Federal Government as part of Indian School land deal in Phoenix. Bob Childs of Phelps Dodge Development Corp said in 1985 the company decided to turn their lands into money for stockholders, signaling further motives in the dispute.

Lordsburg Halloween Carnival Set For Saturday Evening

The Lordsburg Optimist Club will host its annual Halloween Carnival at the Lordsburg Youth Center on Main Street from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Booths include Wheel of Fortune Ball Toss Dime Pitch and a Ware Sale featuring 200 new baseball caps. Lordsburg School Board Meet Set For Tuesday at 7 PM

The Lordsburg Board of Education plans a regular meeting Tuesday November 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of Lordsburg Municipal Schools located at 501 West Fourth Street. A note mentions an endangered area and a suggestion to develop or sell land for tourist use with continuation on page 2.

The Kentucky Fried Chicken versus the City of Lordsburg suit in District Court is postponed pending a new trial date. Judge Manuel Saucedo recused himself and V. Lee Wesley is named the presiding judge.

Property Taxes Are Due Now

Hidalgo County Treasurer Ramona Baisa announces 1987 property tax schedule delivery by the County Assessor. Taxes are due, with delinquent dates set for December 11, 1987 for the first half and May 11, 1987 for the second half. MVD Office Closes All Day Friday October 30

The Motor Vehicle Office will be closed all day on Friday October 30. No services will be available and operations will resume the following business day.
