Sun Carnival Picks Local Candidates For Lordsburg Event
Local Chamber of Commerce and multiple community groups including the Legion Auxiliary Pythian Sisters Lions Club Elks Lodge VFW and other clubs selected local candidates for the Sun Carnival. Each organization donated ten dollars to support a candidate as part of the process coordinated by Mrs Codding. The Sun Carnival plans to publish full details next week.

Cub Pack 120 Holds Monthly Meeting in Lordsburg
Cub Pack No 120 met at the American Legion hall with about 80 Cubs and parents present. Fourteen awards were given, new member Wesley Felix earned his Bobcat pin, Mrs Doris Smith received a Den Mothers pin, and Den Master Bob Williams presented it. The program featured an express robbery reenactment with gold taken and a gold panning demonstration.

New Provisions In Social Security Law
Samuel C. Anthony, manager of the El Paso social security district office, explained the 1954 amendments allow dropping up to four low or no earnings years from benefit calculations for those with six quarters of coverage after June 30, 1953. Those with 20 quarters can drop another year, and the provision applies automatically to maximize benefits. For workers starting in 1955, 1951–1954 are excluded from earning years. others may drop full years from 1937 onward if desired.

The PTA sponsors a Saturday evening carnival at Central School gym with food booths opening at 5 30. Attractions include cake walk games darts bean guessing and a 45 minute movie in the Junior High building. Proceeds divide equally among General PTA and the four local schools.

Rodeo Dedicates New School Building
On October 21 1954 Rodeo New Mexico celebrated the dedication of the New Rodeo School Auditorium. A happy gathering of locals and visiting guests heard Reverend Wiggins deliver an invocation and praise the new building as a beacon for education. The event highlighted community pride and the promise of better schooling for the boys and girls.
