Lordsburg Sun Princess Chosen For Week Festivities

The Lordsburg Sun Princess for the week of December 27 to January 1, 1955 was selected by local clubs and auxiliaries including the Chamber of Commerce Lions Club and Beta Sigma Phi. The winner is the daughter of Mrs. Miller of Lordsburg, who married in May 1954 and has ties to Morenci.

Southwest PTA Conference Set for Lordsburg Monday

A 1A Conference titled Thin We Can Do will be held at the Lordsburg Parent-Teacher Center on Monday November 8 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The theme emerges from fable discussions led by Demna Kennedy National Consultant Chicago Mrs Igulis President of the Congress of Parents Teachers and other state PTA leaders. Education Week Set For November 7 13 1954

American Education Week will be observed November 7 through 13, 1954 with national sponsors including the National Education Association the American Legion the U S Office of Education and the National Congress of Parents and Teachers. The central theme Good Schools Are Your Responsibility frames the citizen’s educational role and invites the public to visit classrooms to see schools in action as 20 million people are expected to participate.

School Carnival a Big Success at Central School

The Saturday evening carnival at Central School gym raised an estimated 225 dollars split equally between the General PTA fund and the four schools. Prizes went to Paul Herna, John Harvell, and Debbie and Suzanne Clayton. Food included chili and beans, hot dogs, popcorn, and homemade candy. games and a 45 minute movie at the Junior high followed.

Mrs. J A Foster of Lordsburg Fourth District president of the New Mexico Federation of Women’s Clubs will preside at the 29nd annual Convention of the Fourth District in Las Cruces. Clubs include Capitan Carrizozo Glenco Tularosa Mescalero Ruidoso Anthony Canatillo Silver City Lordsburg and the Progress Club at Las Cruces.

October report highlights from Lordsburg police

October notes from Police Chief Lalo Sanchez show 3390 miles patrolled and 33 arrests or citations. Seventeen drunkenness arrests led to 75 dollars in fines and 30 days jail, plus a 15 dollar fine or 15 days for an assault case. Two drunk drivers faced 100 dollar fines and one year license revocation. Two disturb Peace cases fined 15 dollars and jailed 15 days. Two runaways and a juvenile girl were detained or sent to welfare facilities.
