The preliminary hearing before Justice C L Brown in Silver City involved seven witnesses including Dick Cureton T E Goss and Neil Moore. Bond set at 15000. The body was found buried in a shallow grave on a ranch.
About 58 members of the Arizona U S Highway 70 Association shared a noon luncheon with Lordsburg’s Board of Directors and Highway Boosters. The event at Jones Cafe featured fall floral decor by Mrs. Earle Kerr and Mrs. George Haltom, with wheat cotton and hygeria supplied by Animas Valley farmers and Ed Hitson transporting it. The Chamber of Commerce extends thanks to donors and participants.
The United States Navy Band will present two matinee and evening concerts in Silver City. Tickets can be secured from a local high school official. Two high school band students will participate in the afternoon show and will be announced later.
Field work for the 1954 Census of Agriculture begins October 29 with enumerators visiting every local farm to collect questionnaires and assist farmers. The 16th nationwide census surveys over five million farms and covers crops, livestock, facilities, equipment, and expenditures.

President Eisenhower will appear as a guest star on a two hour network telecast celebrating Edison's 75 years of the electric lamp. The program from 7 to 9 PM features stars like Helen Hayes and Kim Novak and is produced by David Selznick with Ben Hecht. It will air on ABC CBS DuMont NBC with no commercials and reach nationwide audiences through 325 stations. Local electric company manager Don Johnson promotes viewership in Lordsburg.
Farm and Livestock Bureau Day is set for Friday October 29 in the fair building at the fair grounds. Farmers and ranchers are urged to attend as the meeting will discuss agricultural policies and amendments to be voted on. Adopted actions will be sent to Albuquerque for the state meeting and then to the National meeting.
The Lordsburg High School Band will not participate in the New Mexico Western College Homecoming Parade Saturday due to a polio outbreak in Grant County.
