Move Toward City Commission Form Urged by Liberal Group

State Sets Water Basins Under Judge Jurisdiction

On October 20 1960 the State Engineer issued Orders Nos 82 and 83 declaring the Gila San Francisco and San Simon Underground Water Basins and extending Virden Valley Basin. The areas include lands along the Gila and San Francisco Rivers and parts of the San Simon Creek drainage, with sections 7 and 8 in Township 19 South Range 21 West added. The move responds to litigation in Arizona v California over the Lower Colorado River water and ties New Mexico to related tributaries.

Man Injured in Head On Collision Near Port Entrance

Wilson W. Simpson 32 of Phoenix was seriously injured in a head on crash with a produce truck at the west entrance to the Port of Entry east of town. The truck, driven by Horace Clark 27 of Anniston Alabama, turned left. sun glare cited. Simpson suffered skull fracture and mangled leg. He was flown to Phoenix and remained unconscious. Clark faced a yield right of way charge. pleaded not guilty. trial set for November 11.

Mavericks Rally Past Ruidosa 83-7 in Friday Night Win

Lordsbury Mavericks defeated Ruidoso War with an 83 to 7 score. Key plays included a 20 yard pass from David Estrada to Fd Mule and a second quarter touchdown by Willie McDonald. Ruidoso fumbled at their 44, recovered by Manu Rendon, as the Mavericks seized control early.

Two Men Arrested In Connection With Theft

Two men held in county jail await action after arrests tied to the theft of two saddles a rifle and electric tools from Cienega Ranch near Rodeo. Juan Zuniga was arrested near Rodeo by Sheriff Pace and Deputy McCarty. Fernando Barragan of Agua Prieta Ariz was nabbed in Douglas by Cochise County officers. Joe E. Slover was arrested in Deming and returned to face two counts of issuing fraudulent checks. Slover pled guilty to both charges and received three months in jail and $100 fines on each count.

Lordsburg High School Mavericks can seal the 3B District title by beating Truth or Consequences on Saturday. A three way tie scenario exists with T or C and Ruidoso, as Lordsburg stands 6-1. T or C 2-0 and Ruidoso 3-1 in league play. The Mavericks’ season total is 193 to 53 for opponents, their only loss to Deming 12-6. prior wins include Silver City Hatch Cobre Tularosa Duncan Arizy and Ruidoso.
