Charges were filed in Justice of the Peace court against two young men for capturing two male fawn antelopes without a permit. The animals were brought to Lordsburg, released behind Hidalgo Hotel, then chased to the high school field and finally placed in an enclosure at the C P S plant. The prank resulted in $25 fines and $5 court costs for each defendant.

California Man Dies After Stabbing Incident in Whittier
Arthur W. Calkins of Whittier Calif died shortly after midnight Thursday morning after stabbing himself in the abdomen and slashing his wrists. He was removed to Hidalgo County Hospital where he later admitted the self inflicted wounds and jumped from his hospital room window. Hospital officials urged a new hospital with secure facilities and a bond issue to fund a modern replacement in the upcoming general election.

Bullet Fired Through Window On East Fourth Street
A bullet struck the south living room wall of Mr. and Mrs. John Dallies at their home in the 400 block of East Fourth Street at about 8 30 p m on Saturday October 15. Neighbors heard a report but assumed auto backfire. Deputy LeRoy McCarty and Police Chief Gene Moore recovered the slug, sent to an FBI lab for analysis, and Mayor Alan Koff offered a $500 reward for information leading to arrests and convictions.

FourInch Water Line On South Animas Being Replaced
City works superintendent Ted White says crews are replacing the four inch water line on South Animas with a six inch line. The route will extend south of the city limits looping parallel to the El Paso Natural Gas line to Main Street and tie into the eight inch main. The project connects with a large tank moved to higher ground and includes cleanup of a dumping ground and a new road over higher ground.
