Carnival at Central School Evening Fundraiser

The P T A hosts a Monday evening carnival at Central School gym starting 6 30. Mrs Aubrey leads the event with Burke as teachers chair Thelma Ross core chair and A A food chair invite Lords and surrounding area to attend enjoy supper sweets and drinks plus games prizes and a cake walk Coronation of King and Queen at 9 pm followed by a dance on the floor.

Tourist Traffic Up on Roads to Lordsburg Route

Jack Immers reports a rise in travelers at the Lordsburg port of entry with about 100 more vehicles moving south. He credits weather and snow in northern areas for drivers choosing clear Road No. 70 highways over northern routes. Summers notes that in a 24 hour period on Oct 26 there were 446 cars 773 passengers and 134 trucks carrying 374 people.

Lordsburg Lions club members traveled to Deming on Tuesday night as guests of the Deming Lions club. A turkey dinner with pumpkin pie followed a Halloween decor theme by Deming Girl Scouts at the Mingus Country Club.

Masquerade Benefit Dance for Shakespeare Cemetery

A masquerade benefit dance to aid Shakespeare Cemetery will be held Saturday evening at the La Fiesta Club. The Talavera Orchestra will provide music for a gala night with goblins and witches in charge. Be present at 9 p m to begin the evening of fun and support the cemetery.

Legion Dance Prizes Displayed for Masquerade Night

The American Legion sponsors a masquerade dance on Saturday October 29 at the Legion hall with prizes for the cleverest costumes. A lamp goes to the winning couple a candy box to the best dressed lady and a tie to the winning man. Prizes are on display at Cochran Electric and Appliance on Railroad Avenue. A top band orchestra will provide music.

Animas School Carnival Draws 250 From Nearby Towns

The Animas fall carnival sponsored by Animas School was held Friday night Oct. 21 in the school gym. About 250 people attended from Rodeo and Lordsburg. Highlights included a cake walk, cake and pie auction, and a refreshment booth with sandwiches and hot dogs. Dancing afterward lasted into the morning with Rhythm Rangers providing music. Principal J R Springer led the event with help from students and residents to raise funds for student activities.

Young Republican Club Holds Officer Installation

The Young Republican Club held an officer installation at Moctezuma hall on Saturday. Manuel Marinez became president, Juan Lopez vice president, Lola Hernandez secretary, and Isabelle Alvarez treasurer. Officers spoke and members offered remarks before refreshments prepared by Mrs Rosie Hum were served.

Lordsburg Police Department Commended for Low Crime

The Lordsburg Police Department, a four member city force led by Chief Lalo Sanchez, is praised for maintaining low crime amid heavy tourist traffic. Members Rodolfo Chavez Fred Robbs and Harvey Martin, all WWII veterans, staff day swing and graveyard shifts with service spans from 6 months to 18 months.

Mutual Society Halloween Party at American Legion Hall

The Mutual Society of the L D S Church held a Halloween party Tuesday evening Oct. 25 at the American Legion Hall. Decor featured a Halloween theme and prizes went to Howard Walters as a scarecrow Caro lyn Romney as a ghost and Mrs Floyder as a devil. Punch came from a hollowed pumpkin and pumpkin pie plus ice cream were served to more than fifty guests who enjoyed dancing and a pleasant evening.

New Rodeo Well Has Vast Potentialities

An experimental water well near Rodeo, one mile west at the Chiricehua foothills, shows potential for irrigation farming across up to 14 000 acres. Oren Key and L L Lee report the test well reaches 1000 feet in costing 10 000 dollars, yielding 1250 gallons per minute from four water strata, with the lowest at 315 feet and highest levels reached by perforation. Morrison Drilling Co of El Paso holds a three year option with ranchers led by Jack Hoggett owning the land.

Legion Auxiliary Plans Cake Walk at Masque Ball

The American Legion Auxiliary held a meeting at Mrs. Damon Dunagan's home naming Mrs. Bob Williams and Mrs. David Warren Jr. as new members. A cake walk is set for the Masquerade Ball Saturday at the Legion Hall with Mrs. Williams as cake walk chair and Mrs. Dunagan coordinating cake donations. The group approved using funds to feed needy schoolchildren and sent ten dollars to the Christmas Gift Shop for disabled veterans.
