Postoffice Work Is Completed In Lordsburg

Postoffice parking lot sidewalk and employee lot work is finished. Street resurfacing was paid by the city at a reduced rate during construction. A postal customer said it was a mess and Borrego apologized while thanking users for patience. Input was sought. presentation urged historic preservation into the ordinance. Auditors urged delaying payroll changes until January 1 with biweekly pay periods. County awaits more data before decisions on bank pledge and bids.

Animas Halloween Carnival at the Community Center

The Animas Public Schools will host a combined Halloween Carnival on Tuesday October 31 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at the Animas Community Center. Activities include a Hamburger Fry games such as Fish Pond Money Grab Balloon Darts and Cake Walk with a Nightclub featuring the Panther Football Team plus a Costume Contest and Poster Contest. Proceeds benefit the school.

Punt Pass And Kick Saturday at Lordsburg High

The Lordsburg Optimist Club hosts a Punt Pass And Kick event on Saturday starting at 9:00 AM at the High School football field. Arts And Crafts Fair Coming To Lordsburg Center

Hidalgo County Homemakers Council sponsors an Arts and Crafts Fair at Lordsburg Civic Center on November 3 and 4. Senior Citizens run the concession stand and booths offer handmade items and baked goods. Cowbelles Club sells beef based foods, cookies and candy from town and out of town exhibitors participate.

Phelps Dodge Mining Company announces senior promotions effective November 1, 1989. Jeffrey G. Clevenger becomes Morenci Manager. W. J. Pete Chen moves to Morenci Assistant Manager. William H. Champion Jr. becomes Hidalgo Smelter Superintendent. Timothy R. Snider will be promoted from Hydermetallurgical Operations Superintendent Morenci Branch to a new role.

A noon luncheon for businesspeople will be held Friday October 27 at Kranberrys Family Restaurant. The event is dutch treat and open to all attendees. Morenci General Superintendent and E Michael Schern, currently Director of Engineering and Geological Services at Morenci, will be appointed Executive Assistant to the General Manager of Phelps Dodge Mining Company domestic operations.

Optimist Carnival opens Tuesday at old Blue Moon Bar

Lordsburg Optimist Club hosts Halloween Carnival and haunted house tour next to Bread of Life Bakery on Motel Drive. Haunted house tours start at 7 PM, carnival activities begin 6 PM with balloon bust, fishing booth, ping pong throw, and dime pitch. Food booths offer nachos and sodas. Booth space via Don Kling at 542-3753.
