Well Known Hidalgo County Resident Dies in 1940

Winifred Stebbing reports the sudden death of Andy John McKinney a longtime Hidalgo County resident and World War II veteran. He served as a machine gunner with the 188th Infantry and spent a year in France. Burial was in Hachita New Mexico. He is survived by his wife Emma Fitch McKinney and his mother Froma Pagne.

Lordsburg Day at Deming Race Meet

The Deming Racing Association schedules Deming Handicap Day on Sunday October 27 at Deming Downs featuring a six race program and a $1300 purse. Radiation Observatory to Be Fully Insulated

Alfred F. Moore and A. G. Freiland announced at the Chamber of Commerce that the Solar Radiation Observatory will be fully insulated with rock wool. A building will be erected over the plant with twelve inches insulation on the top and eight inches on the sides, contractor Jack Heather to complete the work. The project aims to maintain a constant temperature year round and is supported by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.
