Annual Fair Remains a Notable Success Says Southwestern Show

The second annual Southwestern New Mexico Show and Fair attracted a large crowd and strong support. Highlights included livestock auctions led by Col. J Vi Ge and top prizes across cattle sheep goats and horses, with extensive exhibits in farm livestock and general produce. Officials praised the event’s organization and community cooperation as a sign of growing local interest in the region’s farming and ranching industries.

Auto Tragedy Kills Man Four Miles East of Lordsburg

A Wednesday morning crash near Lordsburg claimed the life of Charles F. Lyon of Los Angeles. His wife and son Bill were injured when their car collided with a Buick driven by Southern Pacific worker De Witt who was en route to track work. The coroner's jury ruled death from the collision between a Chrysler and a Buick.

Mrs. Isaac Van Meter Dies in California

Mrs. Isaac Van Meter died suddenly at her Long Beach California home after living in Hidalgo County and Lordsburg since her 1929 marriage. She survived by five sons Homer Frank Fred Bud Marvin all in different locations. Funeral services were planned in Long Beach with interment there. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene.

Hidalgo County Youth Register for Selective Service Draft

Hidalgo County held peacetime draft registration with 635 men aged 21 to 46 at multiple polling sites from 7 am to 9 pm. Registration numbers will be drawn later for service and exemptions handled by local boards.

Woman's Club executive board luncheon at Hidalgo

Mrs. H. E. Scofield hosted the Woman's Club executive board at a luncheon in Hotel Hidalgo on Thursday October 10. Attending were Vice President Mrs. L. B. Robinson Treasurer Mrs. J. R. Poindexter Parliamentarian Mrs. R. E. Bavens and Recording Secretary Mrs. T. R. Taggart. Candy sunflowers served as favors. Pierce couple travels to Los Angeles for mother’s illness
