Lordsburg CAP Recovers Navy Pilot Body in Search

Lordsburg CAP recovered the body of a navy Corsair pilot after a search along the El Paso to Litchfield route. Lt Jack Spencer led the Lordsburg and Animas crews who searched the Chiricahua mountains and faced cloud cover that hindered sighting the wreck. The mission followed a missing aircraft report from Wednesday.

Evening Homemaking Classes Sponsor Meeting

A 1954 letter from Will Krentz of Bad Honnef Germany to Community Public Service Co. in Lordsburg recalls his time as a German prisoner of war at Lordsburg in 1944 45. He notes he collected many photographs of New Mexico during his stay and asks a favor.

1954 Amendments Of Importance To Farmers

The 1954 amendments to the Social Security Act affect farm operators and workers in El Paso Texas and southwestern New Mexico. Samuel C. Anthony says farm operators gain coverage from January 1 1955 and many employees who fail the old regular test will now qualify. The old five month rule with $50 per quarter cash wage is replaced by coverage in any calendar year when paid up to $100 in cash by a single employer. Operators must report wages and remit the tax to the district director of internal revenue.

Two Car Crash Fatal for Passenger on Highways 70 and 80

A head on collision nine miles east of Lordsburg killed Pablo Duran 59 of Los Lunas New Mexico a passenger in Esmael Raels car. Rael 17 also of Los Lunas suffered a broken leg and shock. Rosendo Castillo 21 of Gilbert Arizona another Rael passenger had cuts shock and possible internal injuries. John S Marks 24 of Santa Ana California the sole occupant of the other car was not described further.
