Arts and Crafts Show Plans For November Event
The Annual Arts and Crafts Show and Sale is set for November 4 and 5 at the Lordsburg Civic Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All items must be handmade with no commercial articles. exhibitors must staff displays and clear their space by 4 p.m. Saturday. Items to be displayed Thursday and Friday, exhibitors supply own tables, and no food or drink is allowed in exhibits. The Hidalgo County Homemakers Council notes safety but no liability for loss or damage.

Western New Mexico University launches three programs for Southwestern New Mexico residents. ESL ABE and GED classes start October 25 in Silver City Lordsburg and Bayard. Courses are free, self paced, and designed for non English speakers and school dropouts with flexible evening schedules.

Services Held Wednesday For Aurelio Mejia
Aurelio Soliz Mejia 67 of Lordsburg died Sunday at home. Born June 16 1916 in Valedon NM he lived in Lordsburg his whole life working as a miner and chef. He served in WWII from 1943 to 1945. Survived by his mother Juana Reyes wife Trinidad Mejia ten children and many relatives. Visitation was Oct 18 and funeral Oct 19 Heather Chapel with burial at Shakespeare Cemetery. Pallbearers named.

Open House Planned For SWSH Anniversary
To mark the 10th anniversary of Southwest New Mexico Services to Handicapped Children and Adults Inc the organization will hold open houses at multiple Silver City Deming Lordsburg Bayard Fort Bayard and Bayard sites on Friday October 28 1983 from 9 30 a m to 3 p m with displays refreshments and tours. The annual meeting follows Saturday October 29 at the Knights of Columbus Hall Silver City with Barbara Gray Pendleton as guest speaker Reservations by Robert J Hand by October 24.
