Lordsburg Maverick Marching Band Wins Second at Contest
Lordsburg High School's Maverick Marching Band placed second Saturday at New Mexico State University's Pride Marching Band Parade of Champions held at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Competing teams included Deming Las Cruces Mayfield Hatch Ruidoso Roswell Del Norte Rio Grande and Morenci High Schools. Judges included Pat Rooney Kee Carlson Kim Keen and Herb Duncan. The band is directed by Phil Pressler.

Truckers Charged With Criminal Sexual Penetration
New Mexico State Police arrested two truck drivers at the Shady Grove Truck Stop near Lordsburg last week. James Burt Boswell, 52, of Saginaw Texas and James Howard Wright, 35, of San Antonio Texas were arraigned before Lordsburg Magistrate Rosa Lina Salinas. Bond was set at 5000 dollars for each and both have posted bond and are out of jail.

Hidalgo County Democratic Party announces precinct meetings on Thursday night November 1 at 7 30 p m to elect precinct officials and County Central Committee members. The County Central Committee Meeting follows November 8 at 7 30 p m to elect county officials and State Central Committee members. The State Democratic Central Committee meet in Santa Rosa on November 17 at 10 a m with the executive committee at 7 a m.

City Works to Move Senior Citizen Program in Lordsburg
Lordsburg Mayor Alan Koff and Hidalgo County Commissioners met in special session to resolve housing for the federally funded Senior Citizen program. The city would renovate a building next to the current Civic Center if materials are provided by the county, and the program may run independently under a non profit sponsor with annual subsidies. The plan includes transferring control after renovation and possible fronting of the new building by the city, with a county oversight role until completion. Lordsburg city council met Thursday October 11 to discuss a new personnel policy drafted by City Administrative Assistant John Schimmel using Gallup guidelines and revised by Bob Jerkins of the New Mexico Municipal League. The council will reconvene in two weeks for final consideration. The senior citizens group was told to vacate the Civic Center by November 15, a point disputed by Mayor Koff. A meeting with Hidalgo County commissioners was announced.

Central Man Arrested For Armed Robbery Here
Hidalgo County deputies arrest Joseph F. Cohen 21 of Central New Mexico for armed robbery at Circle H Store after 10:59 p.m. Saturday. A toy cap pistol and about 370 dollars found on Cohen. He posted bond and was released Monday. Also held: Manuel Valdez Parra and Antonio Martinez Marquez, both 18, of Chihuahua, Mexico, on unlawful taking of a motor vehicle with 5000 dollar bonds. A Philadelphia, Pennsylvania man was lodged on a burglary warrant after routine check on a car along I 10 found stolen from Florida.
