The junior class with 16 girls and 18 boys totaling 35 members operates the concession at football games under Mr. Heckleman. A concession was also held at the fair grounds last weekend. The class expects a busy prosperous year and thanks the Horse Races and Horse Show committee for the fair grounds privilege.
Sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in coop eration with Sheriff Oscar Allen and Chief of Police Lalo Sanchez Lordsburg New Mexico the sessions run 7 to 9 p m on October 22 29 and November 12 19 1947 in the District Court Room Lordsburg. Attendance is invited for all duly authorized officers.
Crowds enjoy a two day Horse Races and Stock Show at the fair grounds. First race results show Joe Joe as winner, Hustling Girl second, Brother Jiggs third. Second race for a mile also lists Frank Mathews first and Babe Larkin second with owners noted.
The regular monthly meeting of the Business and Professional Women’s Club was held at the Hidalgo Hotel with sixty members and guests. Dr. F G Behmiander spoke on Budgeting after dinner, three new members Dorothy Benson Lola Freeburg and Clara Shoemaker were welcomed, and committee members led the event.
Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth Hayes died Saturday night Oct 11 at City hospital maternity ward. Her infant son remained in an incubator. She left a husband Albert Hayes two sons Bill and Ralph a daughter Dana her parents Mr and Mrs John C Key of Datil New Mexico three sisters and three sisters in law. Mrs Hayes born August 14 1914 in Stamford Texas had lived in Lordsburg for the past years.

The Lions Club met for a Monday dinner at the Woman's Club building with S. R. Suran of the FBI El Paso district as speaker. He praised local Lions Clubs for cooperation and noted city gangsters shifting to smaller towns. He said the FBI will conduct a law enforcement training school in Lordsburg from October 22 to 29.
The Scout Training course opened last Sunday with a film shown to the group by Bill Prine of Ford Motor Co, who provided the projector. The feature was supplied for the session.
The Annual Barbecue of Holy Family Church in Deming will be held Sunday October 19 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Deming Court House Park.
Lordsburg P T A holds an executive meeting at the high school led by Mrs Alten Powell with officers named. National President Mrs J J Garland and State PTA leader Mrs W E French will visit on Nov 1 and plan district meetings in the area including Silver City to discuss lunch room programs and federal aid efforts.
The American Legion sponsors a donkey baseball game to be played at the Fairgrounds Sunday afternoon Oct. 19 at 3 oclock. Come out for an afternoon of hilarious entertainment.
Lordsburg residents mourn the death of Harriet Jean Merritt five year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Bill Merritt. She died early Tuesday in an El Paso hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 10 a m Thursday from Easter Maxon Mortuary.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service announces that October 31 will be World Day of Prayer instead of Friday October 29. A covered dish luncheon will be served in the undercroft of the Methodist church instead of at Mrs. Jack Heather's home.
The Hidalgo County Milk Fund under the American Legion Auxiliary has begun with donations from the Auxiliary ten dollars and the BP W.Chub five dollars and Senior Girl Scouts thirty seven dollars. led by Mrs Moselle Messcar chairwoman the fund lists numerous local donors including Carl Lehman Dick Traylor George Trimble Mrs Gray Henry Ellison Sallie McWhorter George Evans and others.
Geo P Jeffus a Lordsburg business man was named to the Board of Directors for the new Highway 70 organization formed in Ruidoso September 15. A meeting is set for Monday October 2 in Ruidoso where Lordsburg residents can show support and discuss reconditioning and improving the route.
Mr and Mrs F L Gee of Maywood California were injured when their car overturned near Lordsburg New Mexico on Wednesday. Mr Gee suffered a back injury and Mrs Gee a broken arm and other injuries. Ada City Nevada resident was not injured.
The B and B W Club will sponsor a benefit card party and bridge event next week with proceeds aiding a local cause. The gathering invites members and guests for an afternoon of games and refreshments at the club hall.
