Army Plane Makes Forced Landing at Local Airport

A twin engined C 47 from Regular Army Service under Capt Bill Phelps made an unscheduled landing at the Municipal airport Friday morning while en route from Phoenix to Kelly Field Texas. Passengers continued by bus to Kelly Field after the stop. A new motor was installed but another engine failed during takeoff prompting a second engine to be flown in.

Rainbow Meeting Receives Supreme Inspector Visit

Rainbow Assembly No. 17 hosted Supreme Inspector Laura Z. Becker of Belew on Tuesday night. Grand officers Edith Turner Silver City and Mary D Kipp also attended along with Mesdames Willis Lacy and Jean Baker of Silver City. A dinner at Hotel Hidalgo followed, then a Masonic Hall meeting with refreshments for many attendees.

Senior Scout Troop Meets For Business With Treats

Last Thursday night the Senior Scout Troop held a business meeting with troop leader Mrs. John Bradford. New Car Registrations Reported by County Treasurer

The County Treasurer reports new car registrations including a Ford Stoke Truck to Van Meter Ranch, Chevrolet Truck to M D Fitzwater, Plymouth and Buick sedans to various owners, a Chrysler Coupe to S E Allen, a Ford Coupe to Marvin Kimbley, Studebaker Pickup to Charles Grant, DeSoto Sedans to Creighton Bowerman and Mrs Ralph Smith, Hudson Sedan to Jack Heather, and other listed vehicles including John Kirby and Mrs. Ralph Smith.

Scout Training Program Opens Courses at K P Hall

On Sunday afternoon at four o'clock a two hour course on program building in Scout work will be held. It is the first of three classes to be offered at the K P hall and open to all Scouts both boys and girls.

Wednesday Bridge Club Sees Absentee Hostess at Hidalgo

Mrs. Eddie Allen acted as absentee hostess for the Wednesday Bridge club meeting at the Hidalgo Hotel. Members and guests present included Mesdames C. B. Austin H. E. Scofield H. H. Bryant N. A. New Aldermen Appointed at City Council Meeting

City Council filled two Ward Three and Ward Four vacancies Monday night. Henry J. Ellison Sr. was appointed to the Ward Three seat created by J. Hall’s resignation. George Wood was named to succeed the late M. M. Owens in Ward Four.

Accident Injures Man on Downtown Street

R. E. Patmeade of N Stratford was accidentally shot in the leg. Emergency crews treat the injury as reports indicate Renae Mees and Schonell were nearby near Top Tens parked on the downtown street.

The Yucca Zone of the Wo men's Society of Christian Service met in Lordsburg with delegates from Las Cruces Hatch Silver City Hot Springs Deming El Paso Socorro and Lordsburg. Ranch owner Rudolph Schlesinger Dies in Mesa Accident

Rudolph W. Schlesinger 79 longtime Mesa ranch owner and operator was fatally injured in an accident on October 5. He had run the ranch for 25 years and was known in the local farming community.

Mrs Wesley Freeburg from Taos New Mexico becomes Home Economics teacher at Lordsburg District after teaching seventh year in home economics and five years in fifth grade. She has served as District PTA president and county Tuberculosis Association chairwoman and holds an AB from Highlands University Las Vegas with graduate nutrition studies at Highlands and Michigan.

About fifty teachers and guests attended the Hidalgo County Teacher s Ass n meeting at the local high school last Friday evening. The program featured invocation selections address of welcome and reports by delegates. Burke Stiles was elected president with a social hour and refreshments closing the event.
