Lordsburg Council Holds Short Session with Light Agenda

Lordsburg City Council met in regular session Tuesday with full attendance and limited new business. Discussion covered Judge Noce’s suspension system, possible fines for juveniles and parent liability, a $500,000 International Systems grant for north-side housing loans, zoning finalization and commission setup, city vehicle use concerns, citizen reporting, and a Glen Acres water system offer at $50,000 from realtor Jack Morgan explored with Jim McCutcheon.

New Mexico Gets 250000 Grant for SP Clifton Branch Repair

The Department of Transportation approves a 250000 grant to New Mexico to rebuild the Clifton Branch Line of the Southern Pacific Railroad in Hidalgo County. SP will cover 30 percent of costs. Cotton City court project stalls as funds sit idle

County commissioners reported the Cotton City basketball court slab is finished but no further work has occurred. Budget funds for the project are currently nil, and officials seek pipe for goals and backstop materials while inviting public input at a special Rodeo meeting. A variance request for Rancho Cielo’s large map and use of Rodeo landfill were discussed along with revenue sharing plans and lighting for the Road Forks overpass.

Caleb Chandler Plans Visit Here Monday

Caleb Chandler, candidate for Congress in the Second District, will visit Hidalgo County on Monday, October 18, meeting residents countywide. A former State Senator from Curry County since 1977, he sits on Judiciary and Finance panels and led the 1981 Interim Criminal Justice Study Committee. He runs against incumbent Republican Joe Sheen with a New Mexico first platform. Massey, county coordinator, says residents will have opportunity to speak with him during the county tour.

Fire Danger Rises In Gila National Forest

The Gila National Forest faces higher fire danger amid cool evenings and windy days. Dry, curing grasses and dried fuels heighten risk. Three man caused fires in the past week, the largest north of Silver City burned 10 acres. Forest Supervisor Ken Scoggins urges caution with campfires and tools.
