Lordsburg residents joined Jimmy Carter supporters as the Peanut Brigade canvassed Hidalgo County delivering Carter literature. Paul Bolster, spokesman, said the volunteers know Carter personally and aim to raise voter awareness.
GMAC filed suit in the First Judicial District Court naming the City of Lordsburg and Marian Altuna as defendants. The action seeks 34 516 44 dollars plus interest and costs for a lien on a motor home financed by GMAC. The case concerns a 1974 title issued without reflecting the GMAC lien.
Bolster says the campaign is where it wanted to be at this stage and notes some New Mexico residents are unclear on Carter's positions. He defends Carter’s specificity on major topics and urges questions to Carter headquarters in Georgia.
Lordsburg councilman John Schimmel walked out of a Wednesday council session urging others to quit. He staged the walkout to drum up support to fire a colleague.
Governor Jerry Apodaca visits Lordsburg to dedicate a two court complex built at a cost of 29000 dollars by Hidalgo County. He will attend mass at St. Joseph's Church and host a reception at the Civic Center before touring the courts.
Skeen blasted Montoya during a Southwestern New Mexico swing on behalf of Ford and GOP candidates. He praised Harrison Schmitt, predicted Schmitt and Ford would win, and defended Schmitt on state government corruption remarks. He noted Runnels' edge over Don Trubey and discussed a possible future gubernatorial bid. In Grant Hidalgo and Luna counties he spoke on the party slate.
County and city officials will dedicate a new modular clinic located south of Hidalgo General Hospital on Saturday October 16 at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
