Farmers Nominate ASC Committeemen in Hidalgo County

Nominating petitions for ASC community posts opened October 1 and run to October 20 in Hidalgo County. Animas Independent Schools Carnival Returns

The Animas Independent Schools announce their annual state carnival to be held October 16 from 6 to 10 p.m. on campus in downtown Animas. Ladies interested in forming a Women's Hospital Auxiliary are urged to attend a meeting at the hospital on October 21 at 7 30 p m. The group aims to support the hospital with supplies equipment and beautification and seeks broad community backing to make Lordsburg’s hospital the best in southern New Mexico.

Cotton City 4-H Installs Officers at Banquet

About 150 attended the October 7 banquet in the Animas School Cafeteria to honor parents leaders and prospective members. New Junior and Senior officers were installed with Tom Mortensen as Installing Officer. A new system places teens as Teen-Leaders and adults as Advisors with a long list of named Teen-Leaders and special interest projects.

Parkland Matadors Dominate Lordsburg In Home Victory

Parkland over Lordsburg 40 to 9 as the Matadors control the game from start to finish. Parkland scores three first half touchdowns and finishes with two more in the fourth quarter while the Mavericks struggle to mount any offense. Parkland fans set the tone early and Parkland's defense stifles Lordsburg, recording a scoreless effort for the Mavericks. The win sets up a next game at Maverick Stadium against Duncan, Arizona on October 15.

Homecoming falls early this year on Friday October 29. Parade plans are being formulated for that afternoon with local organizations warmly invited to enter floats. Interested groups should contact Mr Thompson at the high school as soon as possible.
