Ralph Smith died early Wednesday at Hidalgo General Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Heather Chapel. A longtime Lordsburg resident, he was well known throughout the Southwest. The obituary will be available for next week's Liberal.

Cobre Indians Triumph Over Mavericks In Homecoming Clash

Bayard Man Injured In Car Accident At Junction
Pedro Gonzales of Bayard was hospitalized for injuries after a Monday afternoon collision at the Shakespeare road and Banner Mine road junction. His pickup collided with a car driven by Joe P. Medina of Lordsburg. a missing stop sign contributed. State Police officers Ales Guinn and Ray Murray investigated.

Lloyd Payne has resigned from the City Council by letter after moving from the city and taking a job outside.
