Train Wreck Near Lordsburg Shuts Mail Service

A 5 30 a m wreck 30 miles east of Lordsburg halted the 8 P freight No 2980 Engine 6117 tearing cars and causing track damage. No injuries reported though two hobos unaccounted. Wreckage cleared by Friday afternoon with mail rerouted via Douglas Lordsburg Deming. Locals Hoffs awakened by the crash.

Commissioners urged to act on Animas Valley road upgrades

A letter from State Highway Engineer B G Dwyre urges Hidalgo County Board of County Commissioners to begin surveys plans and bid preparations for road improvements in the Animas Valley. The community labels inaction to be a disservice and calls for immediate action to prevent neighboring towns from advancing first.

Air Crash at Gage Kills Two in New Mexico

Two people died and a third injured when a four place Cesena 170 buzzed a freight train near Gage New Mexico and crashed into tracks. Pilot Walter Johnson and Lon Ables died at the scene while Tom Flowers suffered serious injuries.

Deming Crash Victims Aided By Bus Driver

The New Mexico State Highway Patrol and Deputy Sheriffs C. B. Hutchins and Joe Rutland investigated a crash in Deming. The bodies were taken to Wheeler's Mortuary in Deming and the injured man was transported to Deming Ladies Hospital by an American Bus driver who stopped to assist.

Prospects for improved Animas Valley road

A meeting of Animas Valley representatives, Lordsburg city officials and the Chamber of Commerce with county commissioners resulted in a plan to seek state road improvements for the Animas Valley road. A letter and petition from Hid e County citizens were sent to the governor, and State Engineer B G Dwyre replied that federal aid funds could cover compliant projects on the Federal Aid Secondary System. The county board was advised to request road work from the county commissioners, and the available information suggests the Animas Valley road qualifies for improvements.
