Robbery and arrest after store invasion and assault
Harry Rosenstein, owner of the Union De j Store, was tied and assaulted during a robbery as a knife wielding robber looted the shop. The suspect, Chiadex Kennedy alias Paul Kennan, escaped convict, was captured hours later by Las Cruces officers after driving to a station and planning to flee. Prosecutors bound over Kennedy to District Court for a serious charge.

Federal officers killed in highway wreck near Deming
On Saturday Deputy U S Marshal Colby Farrar of Tucson was killed and Bailiff Charles O Bryan was seriously injured when their car overturned between Lordsburg and Deming while escorting federal prisoner E L Carden to Houston. Carden was unharmed and jailed in Deming. A tourist notified Sheriff Cavin who rushed to the scene as the group continued to Deming.
