Man Held Up In Lordsburg After Midnight Robbery

Santa Anna resident Clfton Street 45 was robbed at gunpoint near Lordsburg while traveling from Santa Anna to El Paso. The assailant, a paroled Negro, forced him to drive five miles, took $60, his watch and lighter, then released him after returning his shoes. Police recovered the abandoned car but made no arrest.

Late Dove Season Closes October 25

The late dove season ends October 25 and mourning doves are common this year. Bear hunting is statewide except for the southwest from October 1 to October 31, with or without dogs. Shooting hours are half hour before sunrise to sunset and a safety program award recognizes clubs with top hunter safety efforts.

Homecoming Game Draws Capacity Crowd at Lordsburg

A capacity crowd at Lordsburg High School Stadium watched the Mavericks rebound from a loss to Deming to defeat the Class A Cobra Indians 26 to 21 in the 1956 homecoming game. The offense produced seven TD plays totaling 250 yards, with Lordsburg amassing 325 rushing yards to Cobre’s 341. Diaz connected on five passes for 108 yards as the Mavericks controlled the air while the Indians relied on the ground game.

4-H Junior Livestock Sale Receipts Exceed $4,000

The Hidalgo County Fair 4-H junior livestock sale raised $4,041.54. Sponsored by the Elks Club, buyers hailed from Duncan Arizona Virden Valley Animas Valley Lordsburg Deming and Las Cruces. The list shows owner buyer selling price donation bid total selling price and total received per animal with Fat Calves figures and participants such as Johnny Browning Jimmy Culberson Claude Martin Donnie Kerr and Julie Thygerson among others.
