Border Patrol Arrests Man Wanted on Grand Larceny Charges

Federal Border Patrol agents arrested Albert Lopez last week after detecting a fugitive sought on grand larceny warrants in Mobile Alabama and two prior Florida cases in Miami Beach. The FBI joined and turned him over to Mobile officers for processing.

Kick-off Breakfast Opens Geronimo Scout Fund Drive

A fund raising campaign for the Geronimo District of the Boy Scouts of America starts with an Early Bird Kick-off Breakfast at the Hidalgo Hotel Tuesday at 7 am. Scout executive Bob Barrett will help organize Lordsburg Hidalgo County efforts. Lawrence Gay is local campaign chair with more committees to follow Tuesday. President Eisenhower and Governor Simms will discuss the movement on TV and radio Monday.

Deming Wildcats Edge Lordsburg Mavericks In Narrow Win

The Deming Wildcats beat the Lordsburg Mavericks 9 to 7 in a non conference football game at Deming amid multiple fumbles. Deming relied on passing and a 40 yard return by Raymond Gray to set up scoring, while Lordsburg answered with a late TD after a Deming fumble.

Troop 120 Plans Camporee With Three Troops Invited

Boy Scouts of America Troop 120 met Thursday September 27 at 7 pm in the Scout hall. They discussed a Camporee planned for just after Thanksgiving and will invite three other troops to participate. Lawrence Gay scoutmaster presented a two month program chart. Flaming Arrow and Flying Eagle patrols practiced first aid while the meeting closed with two songs The Cowboy's Dream and The Old Chisholi Trail.

Lordsburg Chamber Plans Flood Control Project

The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce convened with the mayor and city council to arrange a flood control plan with the US Army Corps of Engineers. Affected residents who suffered flood losses should contact the Chamber. The Board of Directors meets October 6 and the 1954 director election ballots go out October first to in good standing members.

Allen Injury At Grocery Store Cuts Tendons In Hand

Julian Allen of Allen's Grocery injured his left hand Saturday morning cutting the tendons between the thumb and first finger. The tendons were pulled together and stitched by the doctor and he is now wearing a splint.
