First District Opener Looms as Lordsburg Faces Tu larosa
Lordsburg travels to Tularosa for their first district game of the season after a 21-6 setback to Cobre last Friday. Cobre jumped to a 14 point lead early, then held on as Lordsburg scored a third quarter touchdown on a 60 yard pass from James Murray to Tony Alvarez before a late fumble return by Cobre.

NMSU Creates New College of Business Administration and Economics
The New Mexico State University Board of Regents approved forming a College of Business Administration and Economics effective Sept. 1, 1964. The new college will evolve from the existing Department of Business Administration and Economics, which has grown to about 400 students and will join arts and sciences, agriculture and home economics, engineering, teacher education, and the Graduate School as the fifth undergraduate college. Initially departments will include accounting economics and general business administration. The department was established in 1923 and enrollment rose from 144 in 1956 to 388.

Samuel Bud Pruit Killed In Auto Crash
Samuel Bud Pruit 75 formerly of Lordsburg and longtime Grant County resident died from injuries from an automobile crash Saturday near Silver City. He was pronounced dead at Hillcrest General Hospital after his car was struck by a vehicle driven by Carpio Torres of Ft Bayard. Torres’ wife Josefa was hospitalized with facial bruises and internal injuries. Funeral services were held in Silver City with burial in the local cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, one son, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a sister and a brother.

Seven year old struck by car in on Main and Third
Jimmy Hilley, seven, was hospitalized with painful facial and head abrasions and contusions after being hit by a southbound car driven by Victor Lopez Ortiz at about 6 20 a m as he crossed Main Street near Third. Ortiz Ortiz said the child darted into his path. officer Tony Arredondo investigated.

Soil Conservation District Elections Named Two New Supervisors
Bill Michaels and Archie Payne were elected September 30 to three year terms on the Animas Valley Soil and Water Conservation District board. The at large election allows landowners to vote for two candidates. One non landowner is eligible this cycle. Four of five supervisors must be landowners. In Virden Valley SWCD, Robert Martin and L. R. Jones were elected September 12 to the district board.
