Lordsburg Hosts Duncan Wild in Homecoming Night Football

Lordsburg Mavericks host Duncan Wild tonight at 8 p m for homecoming ceremonies. Esther Padilla crowned homecoming queen with attendants Sandra Werrig Soni Noce Kimbley Lilian Villasenor as freshman attendant. Mavericks previously trailed Tularosa 26 0 after a series of penalties and fumbles before late drives and a blocked extra point.

Girl Staters Present Woman's Club Program

The Lordsburg Woman's Club meets Monday at Range Cafe at 1 p.m. to hear Girl Staters Mary Austin Piatt Badgett and Melinda Chavez present speeches. Pitch and Putt Golf Course Now Completed

A citizens committee reported to the city council that the pitch and putt golf course at Short Memorial has been completed and turned over to the city for maintenance. Alderman Richard Allen discussed civil defense meetings in Albuquerque with regional sessions planned, and Bernard Richardson was approved on probation as a temporary city police officer. Attending the meeting were Mayor Harber Heather and aldermen Allen Noce Dunagan Kimbley Chaires and City Clerk E M Fisher.

Bids Open for U S 70 Reconstruction Project

State Highway Department calls for bids to rebuild 8189 miles of U S 70 from the Arizona New Mexico line eastward. Project includes two lanes cement treated base asphalt surfacing and drainage with a 175 working day deadline. With current eight miles under construction the Lordsburg area segment remains to be rebuilt.

Brooks Attends County Heart Conference in Las Cruces

Homer Brooks, president of Hidalgo County Heart Association, represented the local group at the Regional Conference of County Heart Associations in Las Cruces. South western state associations attended, with a preview of the newly released film Of Men and Minds highlighting cardiovascular research.

Calf roping winner earns small prize at NMSU rodeo

Clyde Yarbrough of Animas finished third in calf roping at the New Mexico State University rodeo held Friday Saturday and Sunday earning $21.32 in the event.

Nominations Open For U S C Community Committeemen

Nominations by petition are invited for ASC Community Committee members in two districts with ballots mailed between November 15 and November 24 1963. Petitions signed by six or more eligible voters must reach the county office at least 20 days before ballot return November 29. Incumbents listed for Communities A B C and rules for eligibility and additional nominations are included.

School Lunch Week Observed United States New Mexico

The second annual School Lunch Week is observed October 13 to 19 across the United States with Governor Campbell proclaiming the observance in New Mexico. Lordsburg schools serve Type A lunches costing 25 to 35 cents, offering a protein source, vegetables or fruit, bread, butter, and milk as part of a reimbursable meal. The program aims to teach varied foods and gracious habits while meeting National School Lunch Program requirements.

Giant Arrested For Robbing Lordsburg Bank

Leon Anderson 30 of Ardmore Oklahoma, six foot ten, was arrested after the First National Bank of Lordsburg was robbed of 924 dollars on Wednesday morning. He was arraigned in Deming on a federal bank robbery charge and held for transport to Albuquerque. Officials described the tense confrontation with officers including Lt. Ivan Kennett and Sheriff Leroy McCarty, with FBI agent Alton Warren taking charge of the investigation.

Public Missing Point in Interstate Highway System

R E Miller of the Associated Contractors of New Mexico says the public misreads the Interstate and Defense Highway System. He notes Congress authorized in 1956 to handle traffic and enable rapid military transport in emergencies, with 90 percent of costs funded by federal aid. The aim is to connect major cities and key centers, with completion planned for 1972 and a 1975 traffic capacity forecast. delays could raise road-user penalties and cost lives.
