Sheriff E N plans eight foot barriers to seal jail windows amid past liquor charges. Pace family juvenile vandalism hits Jackson Junior High with broken windows. case to go before Judge A Wighall this Friday.
Lordsburg High travels to Tularosa for the second conference game of the season. The Mavericks bring a one win one loss mark into Class A action as they aim to grind out a rugged road win behind a full strength lineup. Starting for Tularosa are Red, Stiles, Williams, Estrada, Culberson, Ruiz, Flores, Jackson, Atkinson, and Williams with key backs and linemen listed.
The American Legion auxiliary in Lordsburg launches a Christmas Welfare and Rehabilitation drive for veterans at Ft Bayard. Gifts must be in by November 1 and can be donated at Up-To-Date store with volunteers to collect ribbons bows and arrange gift displays for veterans to select. A May drive produced twenty five hundred poppies and a bingo party is planned for veterans.
Ground Observer Corps reports its second month of tower watches from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with 187 total hours. Supervisor C. R. Simpkins cites low watcher turnout and days with no show, noting several named observers and hours logged, plus training by M/Sgt. Albert Carter and a new permanent watcher, Mrs. Rex Kipp.
The Robert Swan Auxiliary Unit No. 30 hosted a turkey dinner for Girls State delegates Connie Young Molly Orona and Mary Louise Chavez along with parents teachers and sponsors. Mrs Mertice Brooks introduced the delegates who shared a resume of the UNM encampment last June. Special guest Las Cruces 7th District president Mrs Della Hale praised the unit for meeting membership quota and received a gift from president Mrs Connie Saucedo.
Hidalgo County chairman Mrs Earle Kerr urges Democrats to participate in the Dollars for Democrats Drive on October 11 and 12 in New Mexico. Co chairwoman Mrs Rex Kipp asks volunteers to contact her to help with the drive.
The Lordsburg P-TA will meet Monday night at 7 30 at the high school. The president urges all parents interested to be present at the gathering.
The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce thanks all helpers in the fall celebration. Robert Flickinger chaired and led the effort with many workers building the float and organizing parade activities. Judges from Deming and local figures contributed to the event with luncheon for judges and expenses noted from the Business Men's fund.
Johnnie Browning of Animas, a Hidalgo County 4-H member, placed high at the New Mexico State Fair with two Hereford fat steers. Browning finished second in the pair class, second in a light weight class, and fifth in another, marking a notable achievement for a 15 year old making his first major showing.
Five high schools Lordsburg Deming Western Cobre and Duncan Ariz march in the NMWC Homecoming parade and join afternoon halftime ceremonies. Western faces Highlands University in a conference game at James Stadium starting at 2 p.m. Homecoming queen to be crowned.
Miss Connie Chavez daughter of Mr and Mrs F A Chavez Lordsburg was elected princess for the Homecoming game between New Mexico Western College and Highlands University Saturday afternoon. She is a Western senior. Other princesses include Miss Clorinda Martinez Central and Miss Jean Cotten Seagraves Tex seniors and Miss Helen Chee Manuelito junior.
The Lordsburg Rifle Club will stage its annual shoot Sunday October 20 at 9 am. Only members may participate, says president H. J. Rolfe.
