Clean Up Day events take place this Saturday from 9 to 11 30 a.m. All organizations and individuals are invited to join at the Civic Center at 9 a.m. Attendees should bring tools and will receive work assignments.
Councilor Gene Noce submits a resignation letter read by Mayor Koff, effective October 7, amid prior dissents with the mayor on council votes. The session also discusses a potential doctor’s relocation, a private letter, and contracting work for water and gas utilities with Matotan and Associates.
Dr. Robert North has opened a family practice in Lordsburg at the clinic behind Hidalgo General Hospital. A Southern California trained physician, he completed USC Medical School, San Diego State undergrad, and a Los Angeles family practice residency. He is joined by his wife Stephanie a registered nurse. The practice began October 1 and accepts patients by appointment or walk in. Local contact number 542-8211.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Gene Moore said deputy Billy Darnell captured Niel Allen Gibbs, 26, near Rodeo after alerts for Gibbs and another inmate. Gibbs, serving a theft sentence, was turned over to Federal Marshals. the other escapee Donald Wayne Donaldson, 30, remains at large.
A week of centennial events begins with a cleanup on Saturday October 11 from 9 to 11 30 a m at the Civic Center with assigns. City trucks will haul alley debris Monday. The Centennial Committee serves refreshments to boost beautification ahead of October 17 18 celebrations. The Pioneer Luncheon October 17 at noon at the Civic Center features homemade soups and church ladies salads. free for those over 60, others pay 2 50. Kick-off ceremonies October 17 at 2 p m with guests Senator Harrison Jack Schmidt Representative Von Rue Crawford and former State Finance Director David King. Lordsburg High School Band led by Phil Presler will perform. Red Eye Country plays 9 p m to 1 a m at Elks Lodge sponsored by the Elks. The Centennial Parade is October 18 at 10 a m. participants meet at the High School at 9 30 a m and travel to Main Street Rail Road Avenue and the fairgrounds for the day’s events.
