Council Okays Albuquerque Firm For City Legal Counsel

Lordsburg city council on Wednesday night approved hiring the Albuquerque firm White Koch Kelly and McCarthy to represent the municipality as it pursues transferring utility jurisdiction to the State Public Service Commission. Mayor Alan Koff criticized the move and refused to participate in several related votes.

Lordsburgs First Great Passenger Train Arrives 1880

Centennial flashback honors Lordsburg New Mexico with a remembered arrival of the iron horse on October 18 1880. A large crowd from mining camps ranches and villages gathered to witness the two story depot crying with smoke and the coach laden train. Passengers included hopeful settlers lovers travelers and families seeking Westward fortune or health in the climate of New Mexico. The scene captures the era and the remembered thrill of the first through train.

October Is Big Month Centennial Celebration Shaping Up

Lordsburg reads about the ongoing centennial events with posters by artist Lee Flower and student Michael Crook. The effort involves Diaz Howard Walter and many locals. banners, a parade, dances, booths, square dancing, and various townwide activities across Animas Playas Cotton City Deming Silver City and surrounding areas. Local businesses will sell memorabilia and stationery while donors are thanked and volunteers urged to help in the readiness for October 18 events.

Federal Veterinarian Appointed for Southwest New Mexico

Dr. Douglas Woody of Deming is named the new federal veterinary medical officer for southwest New Mexico. The Albuquerque USDA Veterinary Services office announced the appointment.

Cotton City Man Injured In 25 Foot Silo Fall

A 59 year old Cotton City man Buddy Warnel was injured after falling 25 feet from a silo while working on an electrical box. He was found Saturday afternoon and transported by Hidalgo County ambulance to Hillcrest Hospital in Silver City then to Albuquerque for further care.
