Navy Enlistment Open to Seventeen Year Olds

The Navy Department notes enlistment is open to young men as young as seventeen with parent consent. Seventeen year olds may serve toward a twenty year active career before civilian retirement, receiving about 64 dollars monthly, rising to 110 dollars after ten years in reserve. Eleven terms cover broader retirement benefits and post service opportunities. Navy recruiting stations report high demand from soon to be eligible youths.

R. D. Jones travels to Strawberry Plains Tennessee to join his twin JO M Jones at the Jefferson Dam in Tennessee. Both brothers are minors and will not be subject to selective draft until early spring. They are the brothers of Mise Tommie Jones of Lordsburg.

Lions Bet Beans Against Cotton Over Lobos Wildcats Game

Albuquerque Lions Club bet twenty 100-pound sacks of Pinto beans against Tucson Lions Club on the Lobos Wildcats football game. Cattle Shipments Move Calves and Cows to Imperial Valley

The Kerr Cattle Company shipped three carloads of calves to feeders in the Imperial Valley while Freeman McWhorter sent one carload of cows on the same train to the same destination.

B Sharp Club Enjoys Russian Music Night and Guest Artists

The B Sharp Club met at Mre Claude C Fuller’s home on Saturday November 25 for a two part program featuring miscellaneous numbers and Russian music. Mrs Allen Hails Arizona World Premiere in Tucson

Benefit Bridge at Womans Club draws eleven tables

The benefit bridge at the Womans Club last Monday drew eleven tables with events in bridge 42 and rock. Prizes were cake and awarded to Mrs. Donald Johnson for bridge first, Mrs. Donald Mc Cabe for bridge second, and Miss Bertha Scofield for low. 42 prizes went to Mrs. E. M. Brickley and low to Mrs. G. P. Jeffus. Rock prizes went to Mrs. K. E. Fisher with low to Mrs. Mary Lee Fairly. Refreshments included pumpkin pie and coffee.

Delightful Vacation at Manning Ranch Near Tucson

Mr and Mrs Tom Kerr and their son Toliver spent a weekend at the Manning ranch near Tucson. Tom Kerr Jr is a top ranch hand there and has been for months. The family camped two nights and kept to a strict routine with early mornings and chuck wagon meals. The ranch plans to round up 4000 cattle on its 444000 acres. Tom Jr recently recovered from a fall from a horse with only painful but not serious injuries.
