Mrs Hill Defiant in Contempt Over I-10 Ramp Blockade

District Judge Norman Hodges fines Rita Hill 3000 for contempt in a highway condemnation case now near two years old. She has lived in a frame shack on the I-10 project and vows to stay until the road plan is dropped. If she does not vacate by Friday she faces arrest, with sheriff and state police set to enforce the order.

Educators Question Proposed Standards In New Mexico

Lordsburg and area educators met at Silver High to hear proposed standards from the State Department of Education. Ted Sanders outlined state board authority and potential revisions before final submission for approval. Gregory Mayfield observed as ten general standards and eight program standards were presented covering policies, records, facilities, staffing, curriculum, and health services.

Bids Opened for Lordsburg Cultural Center Project

Architect J. J. Hill of Silver City opened bids on November 15 for Lordsburg Community Cultural Center. Southwestern Builders Inc of El Paso submitted the low bid of 128380 dollars, above the 100000 dollar estimate but Hill called the overrun not unusual and cited a circular fountain and minor changes as causes. He urged the City Council to accept the bid.

Vandalism Suspected at Lordsburg Water Tower

Police report a deliberate act of vandalism at the Lordsburg water tower with a rifle shot hole found eleven feet from the top on Sunday. Mayor Koff offers a reward for information. Public Works Director Schimmel notes land behind the dump is state property and no hunting. Fire Department ladder limits prompted Community Public Service to use a bucket truck.
