PTA Panel Discussion Opens District Conference at Lordsburg

The District PTA conference began at Lordsburg High School with a welcome from Ms. Harry A. Day and a response by Dr. J Cloyd Miller. A panel on Public Support for Public Schools drew interest during the coffee hour and festivities included Hawaiian guitar music.

88 Year Old Hidalgo County Resident Votes Despite Illness

H C Walter an 88 year old Hidalgo County resident since 1917 voted in the recent election for his favored presidential candidate Adlai Stevenson. He traveled by car and wheelchair to the polls though largely bed ridden after last year’s above knee amputation. He first voted for Grover Cleveland in 1892 in Page County Virginia. City considers cigarette tax to fund parks

City Council discussed under New Mexico law a proposed tax on cigarettes one half cent per ten and one cent per twenty to fund parks and recreational areas. Action to approve an ordinance is planned for December 1 1952 with possible pool funding as a goal and invites citizen input.

County Schools Show Balance Of 77937 20

Hidalgo county's cash balance in school district funds stood at 77937.20 at the end of the 1951 52 fiscal year. Rupert F Asplund of the New Mexico Taxpayers Association reported twenty counties showed increases while balances decreased in 12 counties.

All over the United States 4-H club members will observe National 4-H Achievement Day on Saturday November 6.
