Heidi Anderson Named To Fill Chamber Position
Heidi Anderson is named the new manager of the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce replacing Francis Calderon who resigned. Anderson, married to County Manager Tom Anderson, has roots in Lordsburg from 1978 and holds a Nebraska University journalism and public relations degree. She began duties Monday with Chamber hours 8 30 to 4 00, inviting constructive ideas from the business community.

John Adams retires May 31 after 12 years at Lordsburg Port of Entry in New Mexico. Born in Lafayette Indiana, he moved to NM in 1969, married Davie in 1970, has a daughter Christine and a son Donald with granddaughter Kari. He served 20 years in the Air Force and held local police and sheriff roles. He plans carpentry and fishing. First Degree Murder Charge Filed in Hidalgo County
David Reyes faces first degree murder charges for the April 27 1985 killing of Esther Reyes. The prosecution says the crime was premeditated and strangulation by hand. Arraignment is set before Judge Manuel Saucedo in Hidalgo County on June 7 at 10:00 a.m. Reyes remains jailed on the open murder count.

Rules Set For Regatta at Fuller Ranch River Route
The Yagatta Regatta on Saturday June 8 will feature teams of two to four paddlers per raft with one person per raft and a 50 yard finish gap. Equipment includes dowels 8 to 12 feet, a 1400-24 inner tube, a 4 by 4 by 1/2 inch plywood deck, life jackets, first aid kits, tire pump and patches, extra tube, lunch and waterproof gear. Entrants must be 18, wear long sleeves pants gloves hat, no shorts, no alcohol or firearms, and must retrieve all refuse. Prizes include the Gila Cup and awards for various humorous categories. start at Fuller Ranch 9:00 a.m. and finish at Virden Bridge about seven miles away in Lordsburg with spectator checkpoints along the route. Currently entered teams include Fire Department City Council Sheriff’s Department Freeway Chevron and Pink Panthers.
