E F Gene Moore a Hidalgo County resident seeks the sheriff’s post in the Democratic Primary on June 3 1986. Moore a former Lordsburg Police Dept Chief and Hidalgo County Sheriff brings eight years prior service plus two years as Chief Deputy. He and wife Faye have four children born and raised in Lordsburg and he cites narcotics concerns in the county.

Hidalgo County voters await Tuesday's Democratic primary with races for county clerk sheriff and district commissioners. Frances Kerr or Missy Morelos compete for county clerk. Rebecca Diaz seeks to reclaim the office. Sheriff sees Mejia McDonald Moore vs Payne. Districts 1 and 2 also contested with Noce Martinez and Chavez Schimmel, all incumbents and Democrats. Hidalgo Commission OKs $2,208,191 Budget for 1986 87

Hidalgo county commissioners approved a 1986 87 budget totaling 2,208,191 Tuesday night. They noted tight finances ahead with potential Revenue Sharing losses and discussed salary raises costing 43,379.38. Sheriff Darnell highlighted overtime pressures. law enforcement consumes about a third of the budget.

Lordsburg businessman Franklin Hood Sr. died May 21 1986 at Gila Regional Hospital Silver City NM aged 62. He had led City Steam Laundry and owned El Charro Restaurant Maveric Room Lounge and Circle H Convenience store. Funeral held May 24 at Heather Funeral Home with Pallbearers including Hood family members. Burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery.

Amnesty program targets unmetered taps in Lordsburg
