Lordsburg Pool Opens This Saturday With Session Times
The Lordsburg Municipal Swimming Pool starts this Saturday May 24 at 1 PM. It operates Wednesday through Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday with weekday sessions 1 3 15 PM and 3 30 PM to 6 PM. Sunday sessions 2 00 PM to 4 15 PM and 4 30 PM to 6 30 PM. Fees: 50 cents children 75 cents high school students $1 college students and seniors and $1 25 adults. Aguilera Bound Over for District Court Trial
Gilbert Aguilera aged 21 was bound over for trial on charges of attempted first degree murder of Johnny DePorto. Magistrate Rosa Lina Salinas ordered the bindover after a Hidalgo Sheriff’s Department report showed DePorto signalled to stop when a trailing vehicle flashed its lights. DePorto said he stopped and met the other driver between two trucks where Aguilera produced a rifle and fired.

Two spray airplanes and a ground crew worked at Lordsburg Airport to reduce an overabundance of grasshoppers in Hidalgo County. Chris Siepel noted the mild insecticide used is the same as previously used in California for fruit flies, with about 21 000 acres slated for treatment at two ounces per acre. Spraying starts at dawn due to wind limitations, and chile and grapes will not be sprayed. The state contributed $20 000 to the operation.
