Little League Schedule Set by Commissioners

On May 28 the commissioners set a summer schedule for Little League with games starting June 1 and August 5. The season includes a Robin Tournament on August 12 and August 14 playoff rounds between top regular season teams with byes for lower finishers. Games begin 6:00 PM with some 7:30 PM finishes. park play to start earlier and finish by 9:30 PM.

City Council Opens Bond Issue Thought For Water Improvements

At a special meeting City Council discussed floating an additional 60000 in bonds for water system upgrades including tank relocation 400 meters and fire plugs. Mayor Koff noted plans total about 71000 but aims to proceed with 60000 if possible. Attending were Aldermen Miller Harwood Bishop Black Noce Cochran and Clerk Fisher.

Fire Destroys Johnston House on South Animal Road

Shortly before 8 pm a fire destroyed a house on South Animal Road owned by Mrs Ina Johnston. occupant Ea Cook was severely burned and escaped unharmed from the yard after an explosion. Firefighters could not extinguish the blaze due to limited water and a distant fire plug amid road congestion. the house was a total loss with partial insurance coverage.

Three Suspects Held In Service Station Holdup

Two masked men robbed Lalao Berrelleza at the Hidalgo Motel service station about 3 40 am Wednesday. They threatened her with a knife and took about $80. Police and the sheriff report three suspects are in custody with details pending the investigation.

Commencement Exercises At Lordsburg High For 38 Seniors

Commencement exercises were held Thursday night in the Lordsburg High School gym for 38 seniors. New Mexico State Superintendent Tom Wiley gave the commencement address. Eddie Avalos was valedictorian and recipient of a NM Tech Cooperative Program appointment. Willa Lunt was salutatorian and earned several honors including DAR Good Citizenship and a $100 Peter Yochem scholarship. Multiple students received scholarships and perfect attendance certificates, with awards for outstanding work in various subjects and activities.

Navy Recruit Dies In Fall From Train

Navy recruit William S. Spruill Jr., 20, of Denton Texas, died after falling from a Sunset Limited car near Animal Douglas. He was traveling with three other new recruits from Dallas to the west coast. Railroad workers found the broken window and reported it, but the four men claimed no knowledge of the missing boy. Investigation by railroad officers, Air Police, and F B I agents continued as the case moved toward page seven.

Good Will Tour Of Animas Valley Planned For Tuesday

Richard Dockum reports plans for the Goodwill Bus Tour of the Animas Valley next Tuesday morning. Lions Club members survey shows about half intend to go, with ticket sales urged to ensure adequate facilities and food. an informal meeting at Animal Station will count attendance.
