Notice warns unlawful parking of motor vehicles bicycles or other vehicles in Lordsburg City. Vehicle must face traffic with right front and rear no more than twelve feet from the curb. Fragments indicate citizens discuss street parking practices and directions in Silver City.
The Little League association met May 14 at Elk's Hall to organize six teams Bishop Lumber Co Gene's Shell Service Winp's Sales and Service Community Public Services Co Elk's Club and Slick's Sporting Goods. Commissioners Fay Potwell Dennis Kerr Jim Smith and Pete Maxwell will assist in registering boys aged 3 to 12. Managers will aid registration. The first game is scheduled for June 1.
Miss L Van Buren presents her piano pupils in a recital on Tuesday June 2 at 7 30 p m in the Methodist Church. The public is invited to attend.
Poppy day observances see millions wear bright red poppies to honor war dead. In Lordsburg the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteers distribute flowers on downtown streets and at shopping centers to raise funds for disabled veterans and children of veterans. Over 20 million poppies were crafted by disabled veterans in hospitals and convalescent work rooms nationwide for the drive led by the Auxiliary, with New Mexico handling poppy production at Ft Bayard and Albuquerque.
Paccalaureate services will be held Sunday at 8:00 p.m. in the High School auditorium. Rev. Hayden S. Sears of Catalina Methodist Church Tucson will sermonize. Local clergy from LDS, Church of Christ, Assembly of God will participate along with soloists and pianists.
A civic promotion in Liberal invites readers to hunt for clues across advertising pages to identify a prominent Hidalgo County resident. Participants write the name and clue count, submit at the featured store, and may win $7.50, with a growing Grand Jackpot and potential yearly subscription prize, all without an entry fee.
Col Roy F Pilley professor of Military Science at New Mexico State University spoke at the May 18 Civil Defense meeting in Lordsburg. He outlined defense types, organization needs including a control center and communications and urged readiness for a possible atomic attack. Kim Smith assisted with arrangements and a film Portland on X Day was shown.
An explosion of undetermined origin occurred at the Henry Clay Mine on Tuesday May 19 at 1 48 a m. The blast and fire wrecked the change room and machine shop. Lordsburg Volunteer Fire Department answered the call. The Brannon operated mine chief Brannon offered no cause for the explosion and fire.
The Business and Professional Women's Club met May 14 at El Charro Cafe. State Representative Jack Morgan spoke on session highlights and answered questions. Mrs. Emma Scofield and Miss Helen Chase gave a report on the Albuquerque State Convention, followed by installation of officers.
The Lordsburg Schools present its annual Vocal and Instrumental Music Festival in Central School Gym on Monday May 25 at 7 30 p m. Featured groups include Junior High Glee Club Triple Trio High School VYoest Ensemble Fifth Grade Beginning Band Junior High Band B Band and Senior High Concert Band under directors James Willett and Roger Brandt. Admission is free and the public is invited. students must be accompanied by an adult to enter.
At the Chamber of Commerce meeting it was decided to hold a gala bus trip through the Animas Valley on Tuesday June 2. The date suits lettuce harvests and allows time to finish school activities and recover from Memorial Day weekend. Mrs Ed Kynaston will prepare the noonday meal. Details will be published next week and people will be contacted to sign up.
The Knights of Pythias announce a May 26 dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. at the K P Hall followed by a speaking contest. Winners advance to Tempe Arizona in July for the regional competition.
