Aordsburg Lions Elect Officers and Committee Chairs

The Aordsburg Lions Club at a recent meeting elected officers including First Vice President Dr J H Baxter and Second President Wesley Freeburg. Directors for year two Hal tom and A F Miller. year one Paul Malott and Jack Morgan. Committee chairs were appointed across multiple posts and officers to be installed in June. club meets Tuesdays at noon in the Hidalgo Hotel.

Local Bayard Tourney Draws Seven Lords Club Members

Seven Lords Golf Club players from Lordsburg competed in the second South New Mexico Golf Association tournament at Bayard. Althouse of Bayard won the championship with a four under par showing across 18 holes, while Louis Monje of Silver City was runner up and Charles of Hurley took the consolation prize. Allen Johnson was runner up in SS flight with Ben Cochran, Robertson, and Leo Cohen earning consolation wins. Next event is Hurley on Sunday, June 21. Floyd Colgar recently spent days in Las Cruces. Roswell district operators attend district meetings.

Mother and Daughter Graduate With Same Lordsburg Class

In Lordsburg on May 21 the Senior class held graduation exercises. Mrs. Robert Harwood and her daughter Nancy graduated together, a rare mother and daughter pairing. Mrs. Harwood, who had postponed her graduation, completed two years of credits to join her daughter. Nancy, an operator in the local telephone office, plans to enter the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque in the fall.

Art Craft Summer School Opens Monday June 1

Monday morning at 9 00 the regular summer school program starts. Mr P M Melnnis will teach lower grades and Mr Carlson upper grades and two craft classes open to elementary and Junior High students. No charges for the courses.

Lordsburg Summer Band Program Gears Up in June

The Lordsburg school will start the summer band program on June 1 for beginner students. Junior and senior bands begin the week of June 8, with specific practice times listed for several students. The rest of the beginners schedule will be announced next week and residents with instruments for sale are urged to contact Mr Brandt soon.

Poco Declared Winners Amid Weather Schedules

Richards Motor Company and Dockum's sponsored by Dockum Butane Co. opened the season on May 26. Each team was slated for 20 games but weather hampered play. CPS and Banner Mines completed their schedules while Poco led with 13 wins and 6 losses, earning the championship.

Indians Win Free Hitting Game From Bowie

Lordsburg defeated Bowie 20 to 19 in a high scoring baseball game last Sunday. De La Rosa and M Renteria homered for Lordsburg. Gangner hit a four bagger for Bowie. Ruiz struck out 12 Indians. Indians head to Safford next Sunday for another game.

Hidalgo Barber Shop Break-In Reported

The Hidalgo Barber Shop owned by Pat Gossett was broken into between 6:00 P M Wednesday and 8:00 A M Thursday. Police found the east door glass broken and drawers ransacked. burglars took seven clipper blade pairs ten to fifteen straight razors and several bottles of hair tonic shampoo and hairdressing supplies.
