First Annual Music Festival Success Reported
The school music program staged its first annual festival last evening. The auditorium was packed as the Junior High School showcased both vocal and instrumental groups. The program featured the fifth grade Glee Club, the Jer High Chorus, the Sea High Mixed Chorus, the Fifth Grade Beginning Band, the Act, and the Senior Band. Each group performed four selections except the Senior Band.
Animas High School Graduates Six Seniors
The Animas high school graduated six seniors three girls and three boys at the commencement on Wednesday evening May 20. H Vearle Payne of Lordsburg gave the address. Roy C. Stumph, principal, made the awards and G Lynn Hatch presented the diplomas. Salutatory by Patricia Mooney Valedictory by Clare Sanford. Argie Haskins presided at the piano with Processional and Recessional. Music included Just A Cottage Small by the girls quartet and a solo Because Of You by Carol Dunagan.

Indians Fall to Pirtleville After Turbulent Third Inning
The Indians lost 9 to 7 as Pirtleville erupted for six runs in the third inning on four hits three errors and a walk. Salaz started for the Indians followed by Madero who allowed three runs in five innings. Both teams were tied 2 2 through two frames before the decisive third.

Eighth Graders Graduation Assembly May 21st
The eighth grade held a graduation assembly on Thursday May 21 at the Junior High Auditorium. Teachers spoke on various subjects and the Glee Club and band performed. Miss Jackie Galushe sang and Miss We GMPed o was presented a corsage for her spelling bee success. The class revival was read by Mary Ann Culberson and Ada Jean Jackson.

Floyd C Colyar operates amateur radio station W5QDD to relay emergency messages between Waco and San Angelo Texas after a May 11 tornado. Operators in those towns used portable and mobile gear to summon help and supplies as commercial lines remained overloaded.

Commencement and Local Scotch Golf Tournament Report
Scotch Golf Tournament at Lordsburg Golf Course drew fifteen couples with Helen Robertson and Sheriff Dick Richards winning nine hole honors at fifty. Other pairs included June Turley and Rex Kipp with seventy two and a booby prize. After a clubhouse feed, Pete Chase won the fat calf donated by the Muir ranch. Lordsburg High School held commencement May 21 with twenty one regular and two fi students receiving diplomas.
