Remembrance Poppies to Honor War Dead Tomorrow

American Legion Auxiliary volunteers, led by Poppy Chairman Alma Arson, will distribute red poppies on city streets to honor veterans and support rehabilitation funds. Disabled veterans at Fort Bay Road made the flowers, and all proceeds fund humanitarian aid for disabled veterans and children of the dead and disabled. More than 13 million poppies were distributed last year.

Mrs Porch daughter of First Set and Mrs Ayers arrived in Lordsburg on May 17 with her two sons to live indefinitely with her parents.

Hidalgo County Boy Scout District Meeting Highlights

Hidalgo County Boy Scout District Committee met at Lorde burg High School with Hon H Vearle Payne presiding. Troop 121 earned a Standard Troop Streamer at the Queca Council Round-Up in El Paso and plans for a by district meet in Deming were announced. A training course on Fundamentals of Scouting was scheduled for June 7 to introduce leaders to the program.

Bridal shower honors Miss Florence Gwartney in village club

A combined party and bridal shower at the Woman's Club honored Miss Florence Gwartney who will wed St. Robert Osborne in Enid Oklahoma next week. Guests enjoyed spring floral decor a lace cloth sweet pea candles and refreshments while gifts poured in from many local women. Gwartney born in Lordsburg has been active in the Rainbow for Girls received the Grand Cross of Color and worked in the county agent office before hospital training in Denver.

Final program by B Sharp Music Club at Methodist Church

The B Sharp Music Club presents its final season program at the Methodist church Monday evening May 31 at 8 o’clock. Artists Nally Bundy Avelas Krewson the Brown sisters and the Hill trio perform Tach Nikowsky Piano Concerto Theme in B Flat Minor and Waltz of the Flowers with guest artists Mrs Thelma Ross and Harry Rosenstein. Lions and Lionesses Hold Social at Woman's Club

The Lions and Lionesses enjoyed a social session at the Woman's Club on Tuesday night. Card games and refreshments prepared by Lioness A. Be and Lion Donald Johnson entertained members. Ravens delighted the group, led by President Allan Bowman and other Lions and Lionesses. The June meeting for the Jungle Kings and Queena will be an outdoor mountain picnic.

Seed Pool Provides Large Pasture Seed for Farmers

Farmers in the Gila and Virden Valley Soil Conservation Districts formed a joint seed pool and secured 30 000 pounds of permanent irrigated pasture seed for fall planting at 7 00 per acre. The first order sales are insufficient, prompting a second order around June 15 led by J G Morrill.

Furlough Visit From Navy Man Gordon Kimbley

Mrs. Clara Kimbley hosts her son Gordon Kimbley a 3rd Class Navy Petty Officer gunner’s mate stationed near San Francisco. He recently passed Lordsburg en route to Deming where he has resided. He visited Wednesday with his mother and brother Billy. Gordon has ten days leave before returning to base.

Jeffus Called Home by Family Illness in Texas

G. P. Jeffus traveled to Mobie tee Texas last week due to his mother and brother’s serious illness. Aubrey Jeffus and Mrs. Jeffus arrived from California by train Friday, and the trio drove from Lordsburg to Mobie tee. He has been in Oklahoma City and Weatherford since arriving and will return when family needs lessen. Mrs. Jeffus and T. B. Williams oversee the lumber yard here.

Double wedding planned for New London Coast Guard cadets

Freida Coffey of Lordsburg will wed Cadet John Roger George in New London Connecticut on June 9 or 10 with Marjorie Brogan and Charles Johnson from Phoenix joining in a same time ceremony. Changes in Petroleum Administrative Order announced

The Petroleum Administration for War issued three revisions to service station hours. They authorize the FBI to buy gasoline at any hour, allow bulk deliveries of 50 gallons or more anytime, and require stations to post hours in bold three inch type visible from all approaches. The rule aids farmers buying gas in 50 gallon steel drums.

State Teachers College Expands Summer War Training

New Mexico State Teachers College offers special classes for adults and high school students during a summer term starting June 7. A 22 year old Army Air Forces gunnery school graduate, Jacob M. Martinez, son of Mrs. Venacia and Louie Ti Martinez, completed training at Kingman Arizona. He entered the Army at Fort Bliss Texas on October 22 1942 and earned the rank of Sergeant on May 10 1945.
