A May officers club dance in IA featured dress uniforms and colorful gowns as couples enjoyed waltzes and fox trots. A mid event moment offered a silent prayer for fallen comrades, and Lt. Col. R. Baker announced the birth of a grandson to Mrs. James M. Helflin.
Major and Mrs. W. P. Churchill attended a Thursday morning engineers conference in Albuquerque. Mrs. Churchill's report highlights New Mexico as a state to be toured later, noting operations and stores as points of interest.
Miss Olive Harper left May 23 for the WAAC Training Center Fort Oglethorpe Georgia. She has served with the ro ves since February. Mr and Mrs Percy E Krewson announce their daughter has been on a vacation to the confines.
Mrs FE O De Camp entertained The Widows Tuesday evening at her home. The gathering featured knitting and visiting with ice cream served. Attending were Mesdames J O Safford F F Northman and Albert Tillis.
Set and Mrs Castleberry return to Lordsburg Sunday evening after a fifteen day furlough at Honey Grove Texas visiting friends and relatives.
The second game at the Lordsburg Internment Camp on May 26 saw 309 defeat 311 by 15 to 9. Pollei of 309 hit his second homer, Rose of 311 homered, Cabini doubled and singled, with Lt Erisman as chief umpire. Attendance was 125. Major Whitmarsh and officers attended. The series stands 2-0-0 for 309. Next game set for June 7 between 309 and 311.
A daughter named Martha Jacquette was born Sunday morning to Mr and Mrs Marshall Fuller at Lordsburg Hospital. The infant weighed 5% pounds. Cpl Fuller departed for his base in Reno Nevada later Sunday. Buy war bonds and stamps.
The Bureau of Mines outlines plans to expand exploratory work in New Mexico to uncover more zinc, copper, lead, fluorspar and mica for war industries. Crews trench, drill, and sample deposits in Lordsburg, Iron Mountain, Deming and other sites, with cooperation from the Geological Survey. findings include copper, beryllium, tungsten and iron prospects, plus small tin resources.
Mrs. Faye Clayton Mrs. R M Reynolds and Miss Betty Reynolds travelled to Roswell last Friday for the New Mexico Military Institute commencement ceremonies and returned Tuesday with Frank Good Clayton and Robert Reynolds. Frank Goad has gained 35 pounds and several inches in height this year. Bobbie also increased in weight.
The Department of Justice reported that in April 3 809 people were arrested and 584 convicted for Selective Service violations as the FBI notes over 200 000 investigations since the 1940 act took effect. By May 1 1943 86 545 men were located for service.
Roy Chamberlain, once Dr Conder’s aviation student, is highlighted in Mrs Allen’s June program at the Palace. He wrote the score for When Johnnie Comes Marching Home which plays June 15 and 16 with Allen Jones Gloria Jean and Donald O Connor. District Land Office at Las Cruces informs about the May 3 1943 act halting the Section 2424 labor or improvement requirement for unpatented mining claims until 12:00 noon July 1 after hostilities end. Claimants must file a notice to hold claims under the act by July 1 each year, with names descriptions and intent to hold, filed in the county clerk’s office.
J A Force of Curtis Publishing Company has been in Lordsburg for several days aiding the Rainbow Girls in a community project.
The B Sharp Music Club presented its last season program at the Methodist church under Mrs. C. C. Fuller with President Rita Payne presiding. The program featured multiple piano solos duets trios and vocal pieces by Hill family members and guest artists Mrs Thelma Rows and Harry Rosenstein with encores.
Hudson, County Extension Agent, announces a county labor program effective June 1 through the County Extension Service. He urges applications for agricultural work and workers, notes a shortage of experienced labor, and seeks cooperation to match seasonal labor with local needs.
Mrs Willie Wower and Mrs F C Martin spent Friday in El Paso, sharing time in the border city and returning home the same day.
In Silver City district meeting of Peace Officers under F B I 1 Chief D A Bryce of El Paso led the session. Banker KE M Brickley of Lordsburg spoke on America’s Debt To Her Peace Officers using a color map of historic events, highlighting milestones from statehood to the Alamo and figures like Geronimo. Lordsburg officers attended and Sheriff Sam Matthews remained present after the talk. Brickley’s grandfather was born shortly after Washington’s death.
District Scout Executive McKee Han will lead a scout training session at the high school on Monday night June seventh. Chancellor Commander A. B. Towman formed a committee of church and organization representatives to maximize attendance. Members include Rev F St. Vonne, Percy B. E. Krewson, Rev Grieve, J. A. Wathen, and Sam Gasa.
Kimble Wood died at his Hidalgo county home Sunday at 1 46 pm He was born April 16 1888 in Frio County Texas served with the 156th Infantry in World War I and later lived in Crockett and Hidalgo counties He married Kether Phillips December 23 1921 in El Paso They had three children Herf Sarah and Peter Surviving are wife two brothers and three sisters Catholic burial was at Valley View cemetery June 1 with Rev Father Grive officiating Pallbearers included D A Lee Charles Weatherby and others from the Legion Auxiliary attended by the Montague unit and many.

Miss Florence Gwartney of Lorne married Lt. Robert G. Osborne formerly of Middleton Ohio at 2 p m last Thursday in Enid Oklahoma Post Chapel. Major M Hammond Capt Macliver witnessed the ceremony officiated by Lt. Oscar Mikkelson. The bride wore a blue suit and white hat and carried Talisman roses. They will stay briefly in Enid then Mrs Osborne returns to Denver and resumes studies at Denver Hospital.
