Southwestern New Mexico golf tournament held at Lordsburg
Seventy six golf enthusiasts played in the Southwestern New Mexico Golf Association event at Lordsburg Course, with teams from Deming Giver City Hurley Fort Bay and Lordsburg. Silver City led by St Johns posted 72 for the day. Paul Kimble of Deming and Chas Johns of Silver City were standout players with runner up and consolation winners noted.

Reverend Arthur Shaw Takes Post at Lordsburg Methodist
Reverend Arthur Shaw assumed duties as pastor of the Lordsburg Methodist Church on May 19 succeeding Rev L J Brunner after a five year term. He arrives from Eunice New Mexico where he pastored two years and previously served in Las Vegas El Paso and Lovington. Mrs Shaw visits Dallas with daughter Mrs Roy Landers who will soon receive a SMU BA. The Shaws, SMU graduates with divinity from Perkins, chose Lordsburg over a large Oklahoma church. their son Rev David A Shaw is in Odessa organizing a church.

L. B. Robinson announced the sale of Hidalgo Garage Inc to Marvin B. Hamilton who became president after a May 21 directors meeting. Hamilton, previously assistant secretary treasurer, resumes duties with Martha Harvell as vice president and Less Harvell as secretary treasurer. The firm remains Buick dealer and Texaco Firestone distributor with ongoing service, paint and body shop, and no immediate staff changes.

Dr. H. H. Conder of Deming to close his optical and jewelry shop in Lordsburg after twenty seven years in business. A closing out sale begins Saturday at 10 00 A M with savings on all stock as a thanks to the community. Conder will be in the store Saturday morning to greet customers.

Hiroshima Santa Fe Children Art Exchange Exhibit Opens
An exhibit of paintings by grade school children from Hiroshima Japan and Santa Fe New Mexico will open Sunday at the Lordsburg Hidalgo Library. The show stems from a cross cultural exchange begun in Santa Fe two years ago to foster peace after the atomic age.

Raymond Probert Faces Major Surgery in El Paso
Sixteen year old Raymond Probert, son of Mr and Mrs Paul Probert, entered Providence Hospital in El Paso Saturday for major surgery. His condition was critical but slight improvement was seen Wednesday evening. The Proberts and Sue remain in El Paso near him, and Mrs Probert's parents arrived from Missouri to be with the family.
