Two Enroll or Beginners' Classes Begin Summer Band Program

The Lordsburg beginning band program started May 23 with a parent sing and a pre instru class. Students listed include Estrada Mike Richardson Shannon Carol Shumway Malott Stephanie Chase de Gomez Paul Gondora Lehman Bob Godfrey Clifford Ramon Reay John Collies Dewey Reay Patricia Kimbley Bowman Janet McGhee Ellsworth Pam Lunt Char Me Robertson Leonard Griego de Gora Aurto Gondora Hipo doba Aquino Mary Madrid Eddie Pete Pena Angel Perez Gondora Della and Carolyn Allen. This week they receive instruments and begin care and use instruction. They will be divided into three groups this month then form one class. Band master Roger Brandt calls this the Summer band class.

Mrs Ruby Allens Home Burns Sunday Night

Firefighters tackled a late night blaze at the home of Mrs. Ruby Allen around 11 30 p m with the origin undetermined. Most of the house furnishings were moved out by neighbors and local men the next day after smoke and water damage. The electric range and refrigerator were destroyed along with other kitchen equipment.

Seven CAP Cadets To Attend Camp At Williams AFB

The Air Force and Civil Air Patrol will transport 170 CAP cadets from New Mexico to the annual CAP encampment at Williams Air Force Base Arizona from June 4 to 12. Holloman AFB will provide two C47 planes carrying cadets from Alamogordo Lordsburg and Silver City with departures at 8 am and arrivals about 10:45 am. Cadets from Lordsburg Eddie Broun and Darry Deaton will attend the camp.

High School Summer Recreation Work Begins June 6

The summer recreation program opens Monday June 6 for eight weeks at the shop from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays. Two groups run daily for high school students. freshmen may attend junior high groups. Monday Wednesday Friday slots 5:00–7:30 and 7:30–10:00. Tuesday Thursday groups 5:00–7:00 p.m.

Junior High Summer Shop Enrollment Planned Next Monday

The public schools announce a free eight week summer shop program for junior high boys. Enrollment begins Monday, June 6, with three classes from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and space for 12 to 14 boys per class.

Physical Education Program To Begin Monday June 6

The summer athletic program for public school boys starts Monday June 6 and runs four weeks. Activities include gymnasium events like basketball and ping pong from 8 to 11 am, and softball 3 to 6 pm. Age-based sessions run 2 to 9:30 for 13 and under and 9:30 to 11. 3 to 4:30 for 13 and under. 4:30 to 6 pm for older boys.

Doc and Ann Kaufman Open Manner House in Safford

Doc and Ann Kaufman formerly of Meyers Restaurant will open the Manner House Restaurant on Highway 70 in Safford starting Saturday June 4. Hours will be 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and they invite Lordsburg friends to visit.

Scrapbook Lost From Lordsburg Hidalgo Library

The Lordsburg Hidalgo Library seeks the return of a scrapbook titled Around Here missing from the collection. A cash reward is offered with no questions asked. It contained clippings on local history including work by Mrs Emma Muir from Liberal and El Paso papers.

Cub Scouts Pet Show at Pack Meeting

Cub Scouts Pack 120 met at the Methodist Church for a regular monthly meeting. A pet show was the highlight with dogs of all breeds, plus a cat, chicken, lamb, duck and fish displayed by young handlers and multiple prize categories announced.

Honors for 194-55 Students Across Sports and Disciplines

In the 194-55 period many students earned honors across football basketball track and more. Raul Diaz and Bob Williams received honorable mentions and second team All-Southwest Dist. Don Rhodes and Jill Rice also earned multiple All-State and All-Southwest distinctions. Tommy Allan was selected for the North-South South Team and Dakota players earned relay and pole vault honors.

Children’s Art Exhibit Still On Display At Lordsburg Library

The Lordsburg Hidalgo Library hosts a Sunday opening for a Children’s Art exhibit featuring Hiroshima and Santa Fe grade school pupils. The display runs through June 11 during regular hours with a tea table and refreshments provided by past Hidalgo County Superintendents.

Raymond Probert Shows Marked Postoperative Improvement

Raymond Probert who recently underwent brain surgery at Providence Memorial hospital in El Paso is showing significant improvement. If this pace continues, he is expected to be able to return home in about a week.
