The Maverick annual class night honored the senior class with a program of songs, speeches, and honors. Readings and performances highlighted class history and notable members with a musical show and a picnic outing at Dog's Head.
Seven new members joined the L club in a Monday night initiation beginning at four o'clock with a one hour ceremony. Chester Jordan, Marshal Fuler, Warren Fuller, Refugio Hernandez, Edward Baron, Frank Stengel Jr., and Damon Dungan entertained existing members before a seven o'clock banquet at the Up-To-Date. Officers elected for the coming year include Harry Gale as 1st Vice President Claude Olney as 2nd Vice President Maurice Conner as Secretary-Treasurer and Jack Kerr as another officer.
The Maverick dedicates its final issue to the class of 1933- Seniors, fifteen students: six boys and nine girls. The town and Lordsburg citizens support their activities, and the paper praises the Seniors as a proud crop. Long live the Seniors.
Last Sunday evening eight o clock the High School hosted baccalaureate exercises for the graduating class of 1933. The Sextette provided music and Sara Gass and Stephen Birchfield led the procession as Standard Bearers. Rev Mims gave the baccalaureate sermon with other prayer and musical offerings by the Glee Club and Nadine Cousland.
A Senior Class gathering at Nadine Causland's home featured Bunco with Betty Figueroa taking high score and Mr Palm winning booby. After refreshments, attendees danced to finish the evening.

Word came from Los Angeles last week of the death of Mrs. Alice Moon Jones sister of Mrs. Florence Crocker with Crocker friends expressing sympathy. Also noted are visits by Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Eckert and daughter to Pinos Altos and Hurley and John Bowlander and family visiting C. L. Brown in El Paso. A fire destroyed one of Mark Hill's Texas avenue houses Thursday night due to lack of water protection.
Mrs. Boyd, beloved mother of Mrs. Roy Hoard, died Tuesday evening. Her remains were sent to Willcox for burial in the family cemetery the following day by the Heather funeral car. Roy Hoard’s father had died recently.
Fulton Forest Supervisor Sam P. Fulton, a noted engineer, has been named supervisor of the Mimbres Camp R. F. C. and has begun operations. Mrs. Florence Case returned to Long Beach California last week after a visit with Mrs. H. D. Hill.
14 day shoe sale begins today at The Union store led by manager Harry Rosenstein. Merchants announce prices are lower than in the near future, urging thrifty buyers to purchase now before further price increases.
The W M U of the Baptist Church held its weekly meeting at Mrs. Frank Corbell's home. Attendees included Mesdames Sykes Pence Christian Olive Bradberry Harmon Wright Tom Kerr Felix Jones Lynn Felix Winslow and others. After the St John 14 lesson, refreshments of sandwiches coffee tea and cake were served.
The Daily Vacation Bible School at the Church of Christ will begin Monday June Sth with morning sessions from 9 to 11 30 for children 5 years and over. Enrollment is open to all eligible children.

The Lordsburg Lions Club last luncheon of summer featured guest artist Moss Maxine Allen who offered Rubinstein’s Remeanor to an ovation. Lion President Jeffus recalled town growth from nine saloons to thriving stores and highways while noting longtime residents. The group plans to attend the district Lions convention in Silver City and meets again on the first Tuesday in September.
Minister T A Phillips outlines May 2 worship with Bible School at 10 am and Lord's Supper and preaching at 1 pm. Sermons titled Pacing the Judgment and The Gospel of Christ Is It an Evolution or a Revelation. Emphasizes Gospel's timeless strength in troubled times.
A hot rifle match is set for Sunday morning May 7 at 10 o'clock on the local range. The Kraig supporters claim much practice this week and expect victory. Springfield backers have kept quiet but promise a surprise.
The Friday bridge club gathered at Mrs. Jack Heathers home with Mesdames Ernest Short Eddie Allen Ronald Egan Ray Evans Glen Ross D W Collins present. Guests included Mesdames Jack Winsor Ralph Smith Claude Olney Walter Boswell Ed Clark and Marie Graham. Mrs Evans won high for the club and Mrs Vinson high for the guests. Pineapple ice box cake and punch were served.
The Tuesday night bridge club met at the home of Mrs Ed Clark. Present were Mesdames Tom Lister Geo Tyra Marie Graham Frank Weldon Ralph Smith J K Vinson William Townsend Walter Boswell and Martin with guests Mrs F Cooke and Lou Johnson. Mrs Graham won high score and delicious cookies and punch were served.
Sunset Goldfields Inc and its officers promote a vast placer deposit along Federal Highway 180 between Lordsburg and Silver City. U S Commissioner Willard Holt examined the field, reporting rich surface and bedrock gold with tests yielding up to 3200 dollars per ton. The property spans 1040 acres with multiple watercourses and benches, employing many workers under modern washing and milling plans to tap millions of tons of gold bearing material.
Memorial Day will honor soldiers who died in war with taps and reverence. Disabled veterans of World War II made red poppies for sale by the American Legion Auxiliary to raise funds for veterans and their families in the community. The poppies were made at Fort Bayard, New Mexico. Buy a poppy with your nickel, dime or dollar.
The New Mexico Lions district convention in Silver City featured a gala event with International president Charles B. Hatton in attendance. Lordsburg delegates Jeffus and Mims led committees, with numerous Lordsburg Lions and Lionesses among attendees. Silver City’s Bower elected district governor and Russell named district director.
SUFFERS BROKEN LEG Pat Murphy of Silver City was injured Monday when a gravel truck he drove overturned west of town. He had both bones in his right leg broken above the ankle and was brought to town for setting. The account notes the accident and medical response.
Memorial Day program on May 1 under American Legion and Auxiliary auspices. The committee urges all organizations to participate in a 10:00 a.m. march from Railroad Avenue and South Street, with a full program at Palace Theatre including band, invocation, flag ceremony, address by Alvin White, and a cemetery service followed by a 3:00 p.m. baseball game by Lions and American Legion.
Harlow Hyland of the New Mexico Disabled Soldiers Relief Commission will speak at the Lordsburg Courthouse on June 6 at 8 00 p m. He will explain new regulations affecting disabled veterans and others in Hidalgo County. Hyland will present the laws without criticism, focusing on how they work as the American Legion and its Auxiliary arrange the turnout. Also noted are visits by Rev and Mrs M C Moore to Deming and a minor car accident injury to Junior Schultz Tuesday.
